THIS WEEKEND: Fr. Jack “True Story” Nanz will be here this weekend providing Mass coverages while I am away at a Youth Conference for Priests and Youth Ministers at the Youth Center in Kearny, New Jersey of the Diocese of Newark.  Thanks for your help, Jack!!! 

REMEMBER IN PRAYER our CCD Second Graders who will be making their First Communion this coming Saturday, April 28, and the Confirmation Candidates from Christ the Light of the World, St. Joseph, St. Agnes, and Holy Trinity who are celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation at St. Mark Parish this Wednesday, April 25.

FIRST COMMUNION:   First Communicants should report at 10:15am.  Practice will be April 27th at 6:00pm.  Students can wear their Communion attire to the Mass they attend the weekend of May 5-6 and Fr. Tom will acknowledge them.

OUR LAST HOAGIE SALE OF THE SEASON WILL BE MAY 5-6.  You are welcome to join our wonderful team of volunteers who prepare the hoagies starting at 8am Saturday morning and sell the hoagies at the weekend Masses. We’ve been selling out so it would be a good idea to get your orders in early, especially if you plan to attend the 11:30am Mass.  Call the office at 412-469-0196.

ELECTION DAY SPAGHETTI  DINNER: Tuesday, May 15 from 12:00 – 6:00pm in Holy Name Hall.  Cost is $9 for adults, $6 for children under 8 years. Includes spaghetti & meatballs, salad, dinner roll and coffee or tea.  A complimentary glass of red or white wine will be offered (adults only, dine in only). For take outs, call 412-466-8960.   50/50 Raffle and Lottery Basket Raffle with Pittsburgh Pirate Game Tickets.

#SETHSTRONG 2018 RAFFLE:  Fundraiser for Seth Jacob Budai Memorial Scholarship. Winning number taken from PA Daily Pick 3 Lottery at 7pm, first number drawn Thursday, May 24, 2018.  Donation $15.00. MIFFLIN CLUB FLEA MARKET MAY 6:  8:00am – 2:00pm at Mifflin Social Club, 4025 Irene Street, West Mifflin.   Rent a table and sell your own household items, jewelry, etc.  Indoor or outdoor space with table $25; outdoor space only $20.  For reservations call Judi (412-400-4403) or Jill (412-860-8002).  First come first serve. Concessions will be available. This is a rain or shine event, so if you are outdoors bring your own tent or cover.

ATTENTION KNITTERS & CROCHETERS:  Our “Stitches of Love” group is starting up again for Spring.  Our first meeting will be Thursday, April 19th at 10am in HN Church Hall.  We love to see new faces… beginners and practiced knitters and crocheters are welcome.  Give yourself a break and come stitch away the time while you enjoy some fellowship  and conversation with fellow parishioners and friends.

EASTER BUNNY RAFFLE: This raffle runs from April 1 thru May 4 with a $100.00 winner each day, except Easter Sunday & May 4th - $200.00 prize.  The winner is based on the PA daily 3 digit evening lottery.  All sold and unsold tickets must be returned by April 1 (Easter) or in the Easter Sunday collection.

HOAGIE SALE NEXT WEEKEND:  Our next Hoagie Sale will be next weekend, April 7th & 8th.  We frequently sell out so we encourage you to call in your order in advance (412-469-0196). This will give us a better idea of how many hoagies to make so we don’t disappoint anyone. As always, we need volunteers to help build them on Saturday morning beginning at 8:00am in Holy Name Hall.  We also need volunteers to help sell hoagies before and after weekend Masses.  If you can help at the Mass you attend call the office:  412-469-0196. 

BUFFET BREAKFAST THANK YOU:  The Caring Ministry wishes to thank all volunteers and parishioners and friends for making our Palm Sunday Breakfast Buffet a success.  Thanks to you we realized a profit of $667.12.  We hope you will join us again for our Thanksgiving Breakfast Buffet in November. 

FISH FRY THANK YOU:  A special “Thank You” Tony Popowitz and the Core group of dedicated workers who made this venture possible, from the cooks to the order takers, set up and clean up crews and especially to our two Captain Haluski makers Ron Kelley and Tony Chepanoske. Also many thanks to the people who baked goodies to sell at the desert table every week, and the people who made and donated Gift Baskets. Thanks to all who patronized our fish fry. It was a fun filled way to enjoy fellowship, have some laughs, eat some GREAT FOOD, and to build Church Community.  For the five fish fry’s we generated  a net profit of $6,272.00.

HOLY WEEK BEGINS
The Season of Lent ends– Palm Sunday and the Season of Holy Week begin.  Let’s plan on making this the holiest and most spiritual week of the year by participating in our Holy Week celebrations.
·       Holy Thursday:   we will begin at 7:00 pm in Holy Name Church.  There will be a coin offering for the poor and the needy. Bring a candle in an upside down plastic bottle to carry  in our prayerful candlelight procession to St. Hedwig.  Parents could provide safety lights or battery operated candles for the children to carry instead of candles.  Those who have trouble walking can meet us at St. Hedwig for the closing ceremony.  This ceremony is a great teachable moment for children. St. Hedwig Church will remain open till 10:00 pm.
·       Good Friday: Celebration of the Liturgy of the Word, Veneration of the Cross and Communion begin at 12:00 noon in Holy Name Church.  The collection is for the Holy Land.  Good Friday is a day of fast & abstinence.
·       Blessing of Easter Foods:  will take place on Saturday, March 31 – 12 noon – Holy Name Church.
·       Holy Saturday – Easter Vigil:  5:00 pm Holy Name Church.
·       Easter Sunday:  9:00 am at St. Joseph Church, 11:30 am Holy Name Church.

HOAGIE SALE APRIL 7-8 WEEKEND:  Our next Hoagie Sale will be the weekend after Easter: April 7th & 8th.  We frequently sell out so we encourage you to call in your order in advance (412-469-0196). This will give us a better idea of how many hoagies to make so we don’t disappoint anyone. As always, we need volunteers to help build them on Saturday morning beginning at 8:00am in Holy Name Hall.  We also need volunteers to help sell hoagies before and after weekend Masses.  If you can help at the Mass you attend call the office:  412-469-0196. 

EASTER BUNNY RAFFLE:  Tickets have been mailed out to all parishioners.  This raffle runs from April 1 thru May 4 with a $100.00 winner each day, except Easter Sunday & May 4th - $200.00 prize.  The winner is based on the PA daily 3 digit evening lottery.  This is a great way to support YOUR parish.  All sold and unsold tickets must be returned by April 1 (Easter) or in the Easter Sunday collection.  If you need more, call the rectory.

PASSOVER SEDER MEAL: Palm Sunday, March 25 from 3:00 – 5:30 PM. At St. Rita Social Hall in Whitaker, Pa. This meal is based on the Jewish Passover Meal.  For more information and reservations, please call 412-461-8087 or email Fr. Ed Czmerda at eczemerda@gmail.com by March 18.

KENTUCKY MISSION CENTER UPDATE:  As of March 31, 2018, the warehouse and thrift store of the Fr. Beiting Appalachian Mission Center will be permanently closed.  When Father died three years ago, the Diocese of Lexington was operating the Mission Center.  The Diocese was struggling financially for a number of years even before Fr. Beiting died, and it can no longer provide funding for the Mission center. Because of this circumstance, I will no longer be accepting items for the Mission Center.  I want to thank all of you for your support of the Mission Center over the past 12 years.  Let us remember our “spiritual kinfolk” in Appalachia in prayer. Thanks.

HOLY WEEK BEGINS NEXT WEEKEND!!!
The Season of Lent ends next weekend – Palm Sunday and the Season of Holy Week begins.  Let’s plan on making this the holiest and most spiritual week of the year by participating in our Holy Week celebrations.
·       Holy Thursday:   we will begin at 7:00 pm in Holy Name Church.  There will be a coin offering for the poor and the needy. Bring a candle in an upside down plastic bottle to carry  in our prayerful candlelight procession to St. Hedwig.  Parents could provide safety lights or battery operated candles for the children to carry instead of candles.  Those who have trouble walking can meet us at St. Hedwig for the closing ceremony.  This ceremony is a great teachable moment for children. St. Hedwig Church will remain open till 10:00 pm.
·       Good Friday: Celebration of the Liturgy of the Word, Veneration of the Cross and Communion begin at 12:00 noon in Holy Name Church.  The collection is for the Holy Land.  Good Friday is a day of fast & abstinence.
·       Blessing of Easter Foods:  will take place on Saturday, March 31 – 12 noon – Holy Name Church.
·       Holy Saturday – Easter Vigil:  5:00 pm Holy Name Church.
·       Easter Sunday:  9:00 am at St. Joseph Church, 11:30 am Holy Name Church.

Home Baked Goods are gratefully accepted for all Fish Frys.  Volunteers are always welcome even if you only have a couple of hours to spare. Come on down and have some fun.
Reminder:  We appreciate donations of Water and Soft Drinks anytime for our Fish Frys and also for Youth Group and other Parish Activities held in HN Church Hall throughout the year. You can drop it off at HN Hall daily from 7:30-3:30, or at the Church Office, or leave in the Church vestibule.

PALM SUNDAY COUNTRY BREAKFAST BUFFET:  will be hosted by the Caring Ministry Palm Sunday March 25 in HN Hall from 9am  - 1:30pm.  Menu includes:  scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, pancakes, fruit, rolls, juice, coffee, tea & dessert.  Adults: $8.00, children 10 & under: first child – $5.00, other children free.

ANNUAL CEMETERY CLEAN-UP IS UNDERWAY: The Catholic Parish Cemeteries is conducting the Annual Cemetery Clean-up during March.  All Christmas items will be removed from all graves during the cleanup.  Hopefully you have removed any items you wish to keep.   The deadline to do this was March 1st.
