It is with great joy and pride, that we are able to welcome to Duquesne this weekend, Fr. John Adams, son of Bill & Mary Adams.  John was ordained last weekend by Bishop Malone for the Diocese of Buffalo, New York. He is presiding at the 10:00 am Mass, his first official celebration here in Duquesne.

It is a great honor for our Duquesne community to have one of our native sons called from among us to dedicate his life in service of the church.  To get to this point in ones life is no easy task.  It is with a lot of prayer and work, that one can achieve this goal.  On a personal note, I wish it was for the Diocese of Pittsburgh rather than Buffalo that John was ordained.  John’s call to ordination is proof that the Holy Spirit of God is alive and working among us.

It is my wish that more parents would encourage their children to respond, if so called, to priesthood or religious life.  A classmate of mine recently related the following true story:  Several people were commenting to him about the lack of priestly vocations and how could he even think of retiring.  He responded:  “My parents gave a son to the church.” “Have any of you given a son?”  Thanks Bill & Mary for giving one of your sons to the church.

The 4 digit raffle ticket number will go off at 7:00 pm Monday evening.   All ticket returns must be at the Holy Name rectory no later than 9 am MONDAY morning to be eligible to be a winning ticket.

We are selling the plants that adorned the altar during the Easter season. They include: pothos, Chinese lilies, ferns, palms, etc. They are selling for $10.00 each. See Joe Madar or Ray Judy, or call the rectory if interested.

On Tuesday, June 17, the Christian Mothers meeting will begin with the recitation of the rosary at 11:45 am followed by noon Mass.  Afterwards, we will proceed to the Eat n Park at the Waterfront, Homestead for lunch (at your own expense.)  Transportation will be provided from Holy Name Church for those who can’t or don’t want to drive there.  Please call Victoria Laban (412-521-0740)  with your reservation and let her know if you need a ride.  Meetings will resume in September.

This year, the Joint Parish Family Picnic will be held on August 24 at the Mifflin Club in West Mifflin.  After being such a huge success last year, we wanted to keep the momentum going and plan and prepare early.   The first planning meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 25 at 6:30 pm in the Holy Name Hall.  We already had some input for new ideas, so anyone wishing to help and be a part should plan on coming to the meeting.  If you want to help, but can’t attend call Doug Vranish (412-969-8222.)
