I recently talked with Fr. Jack Nanz, who occasionally helps me out when I am away for vacation.  He always has a “true” story to tell and he has been widely appreciated and accepted by members of both parishes.  He told me that during the last snow storm, he fell on the ice and broke his shoulder in two places.  He is laid up in a cast and may require an operation.  I thought it would be nice if Fr. Jack heard from our parishioners.  His address:  Fr. Jack Nanz, %St. Patrick Church, 317 W. Pike St., Canonsburg, Pa. 15317.

We would like to congratulate Tara Zubeck, who received the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist) as an adult at the Easter vigil and is now fully initiated into the Catholic Church.

Please remember Jack Colella, who died and rose to new life with the Lord last week.

A marvelous and wonderful experience took place in our parishes in Duquesne this past Palm Sunday weekend.  The day began with a beautiful Liturgy in St. Joseph Church with Bishop David Zubik presiding.  Members of both St. Joseph and Christ the Light of the World filled the church and joyfully yet prayerfully ushered in the Holy Week Season.  The Bishop was accompanied by 17 of his seminarians studying for the priesthood.  The Mass was followed by the Caring Ministry sponsored Buffet Breakfast attended also by the Bishop.  He made it a point to canvas the hall filled with hungry guests and greet as many as possible.  The Bishop paid several compliments especially how well kept our church buildings are and how beautifully decorated they are; how magnificent our music ministry is especially the quality of music, the variety of various genres used and how well performed it is and lastly but not least how enthusiastic, energetic and joyfully we pray as a community.  He said we have several buildings with different names but act like “one parish family.”

We will be celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday, April 18 in Holy Name Church with Bishop William Winter presiding.  Practice:  for all candidates and sponsors will take place on Sunday, April 14 at 12:30 pm in Holy Name Church.  Practice should be take less than one hour.  All candidates must have their sponsor’s name and confirmation name ready for Fr. Dennis at the last class on April 7.

JOIN THE FIGHT to support the Mike and Megan Walters family as they battle Mike’s aggressive form of leukemia and do what we do best………. HELP OTHERS!

  • Online Giving:  We have set up a “bucket” on the parish website so donations can be given electronically.  We are going to have a “link” on the site so everyone can be informed and updated.
  • Donations:  Monetary donations can be sent to the rectory.  Make checks to “Friends of the Needy” on the memo line note “Mikes Fight.”

The annual 2013 Parish Share Program is underway.  Invitations to participate  have been sent to all parishioners. We are hoping that you will consider making a donation to help us meet this goal.  Our assessment this year based on 17.6% of our total assessable income from last year is $54,074.00.  This is about $5.000.00 less than last year, due to less income to the parish, as well as donations to the extra PSP envelope.  Last year (2012), we fell short of our goal by $7,072.90 and had to take it from parish savings.  If everyone would do something, we can meet this goal and if we go over those monies stay with the parish tax free. Food for thought:  Every donation/gift no matter how large or small is greatly appreciated.  However, this week we had about 40 responses and about 25 of them were for $100.00 or more.  If 500 people participated in this way we would hit our goal and be able to use the overage for needed maintenance and upkeep issues in our parish.

Invitations were sent inviting parishioners to participate in this successful fundraiser.  It will run from March 31 thru April 30 with a $100.00 winner each day, except Easter Sunday & April 12 (Income Tax Day) - $200.00  prize.  The winner is based on the PA daily 3 digit evening lottery.  This is a great gift for an Easter basket stuffer, as well as a great way to support YOUR parish.  If you could buy a few extras, it would really help out.

To request your yearly contributions to the church for 2012,  you may call the parish office (412-469-0196 – during the week) or email your request at  They will be mailed to you the Friday after you make your request.
