CONGRATULATIONS

With praise and thanksgiving to Almighty God, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo joyfully announces to ordination of John William Adams (son of Bill & Mary Adams) to the Sacred Order of Deacon through the imposition of hands and the invocation of the Holy Spirit conferred by Most Reverend Richard J. Malone, Bishop of Buffalo on Friday, October 25, 2013 at St. John Cathedral, Buffalo, New York.  This is Johns last step before being ordained sometime next year.

MORE PRAYERS FOR FR. DENNIS

Starting Sunday, November 3rd (just before the 11:30 am Mass begins), whoever wishes “to do what we do best (pray)” is invited to participate in the praying of the St. Jude novena for the complete recovery of Fr. Dennis.  The novena will run for the customary 9 weeks of praying, ending Sunday, December 29th.  The novena is very brief, but very powerful.  Please arrive at least 10 minutes early for  the start of the novena.  Although our focus is on Fr. Dennis, anyone who has an impossible situation can write their request on a card and give to Ray Judy or Paul Ruhl before the novena starts and your intention will be read aloud during the petition part of the novena.

ALL SAINTS DAY - HOLYDAY

Friday, November 1 is All Saints Day. It's a holy day of obligation. The mass schedule is Thursday evening at 6:00 pm at Holy Name and Friday afternoon at 12:00 pm at Holy Name.

HOMEMADE HOAGIE SALE

We will be selling our famous homemade hoagies after all the weekend Masses next Sat./Sun., Nov. 2 & 3. and Saturday morning from 9:30 – 11 am.  Donation is $5.00 each  Volunteers:  we have been very successful getting volunteers but we always can use more.  Last month, we were done in 3 hours.  Come at 8 am and join in the fun, socialization, as well as doing something beneficial for the parish.  Orders:  If you would like to place an order, call the rectory.  Sellers:  Why not consider selling some at your workplace and take them in Monday morning.

MORE THANKSGIVING NEWS - REACHOUT

You can make a monetary donation to help a needy family for Thanksgiving.  Drop the donation in the collection or mail to the rectory.  Mark the envelope, “reachout.”  Another easy way to participate is by donating some “Food Store Gift Cards.”  Drop in the collection or mail to the rectory.

CANS OF COINS:  Start saving your coins/change for our traditional “coin offering” at our Thanksgiving Liturgy which helps needy families.  This is another great way to teach your children about charitable giving.

ALL SOULS REMEMBRANCES - "BOOKS OF REMEMBRANCE"

We have put out the “Memorial Books” for you to write the names of all your deceased loved ones who have died and who you would like to have remembered in a special way during our All Souls Celebrations on Sunday, November 3rd.   “Masses of Remembrance”:  On Sunday, November 3,  there will be a special remembrance at the two morning Mass for all those who have died since last All Souls Day from Christ the Light of the World Parish and St. Joseph Parish.  Invitations are being sent to one family member of those to be remembered and are asked to notify other family members.

VETERAN'S DAY SPECIAL

On Veteran’s Day weekend, Saturday, November 9, we are going have a homemade Fried Chicken Buffet Dinner  from 3 pm – 7 pm in the Holy Name Hall.  Come and eat before or after Mass or take some home. If you thought the grilled food at the picnic was great, wait until you sample the fried chicken.

  • Special Notes:  1) All veterans eating in, eat free.  2) Every adult eating in will receive a free glass of wine.  Donation is $8.00 for adults, $5.00 children (12 & under).
  • Volunteers:  We need lots of help to make this special event a success.  We need buffet servers, prepsters (to do prep work the day before), cashiers, clean up helpers, etc.  If you want to volunteer call Ray Judy (412-518-2152) or the rectory.  This event will be a good chance for those who work during the week to give the “gift of time.”
  • Baked Goods:  we would like to have a baked goods sale.  Bring your baked goods to the hall that day.

LIFE LESSONS FROM OUR CHILDREN

Last week, one of our second grade CCD students, Jack Spence approached me with the idea that he wanted to sell “Rainbow Loom Bracelets”(a new craze lots of kids are making) after Mass outside of church and donate the money to the church.  Not wanting to diminish his enthusiasm, I suggested that he make them and that we would ask any children from the CCD program & parish who wanted to participate and get involved by making them. After speaking with some of the teachers, we are going to ask any children that want to make the Rainbow Loom Bracelets to do so.  You may drop them off at the CCD office on Sunday mornings and then after all the weekend Masses on Nov. 9/10, we will let the kids sell them.  You may purchase a Rainbow Loom Bracelet by giving a donation of any amount. The money donated will go to the Feed the Hungry for Thanksgiving.
