REST IN PEACE

Please remember Andrea Krasman Kiehl, Elvira Lauris, and Jean McCrea who died and rose to new life with the Lord this past week.

MORE PRAYERS FOR FR. DENNIS

Starting Sunday, November 3rd (just before the 11:30 am Mass begins), whoever wishes “to do what we do best (pray)” is invited to participate in the praying of the St. Jude novena for the complete recovery of Fr. Dennis.  The novena will run for the customary 9 weeks of praying, ending Sunday, December 29th.  The novena is very brief, but very powerful.  Please arrive at least 10 minutes early for  the start of the novena.  Although our focus is on Fr. Dennis, anyone who has an impossible situation can write their request on a card and give to Ray Judy or Paul Ruhl before the novena starts and your intention will be read aloud during the petition part of the novena.

THANK YOU

We would like to thank everyone who is anyway help make last weekends “Breast Cancer Awareness Benefit” such a huge success.  Chairperson, Kathy Kuszaj and her committee of over 25 people provided our guests with a wonderful evening.  It was awesome to see the 70 specialty baskets that were donated.  We had a profit of $6,875.35.

ALL SOULS REMEMBRANCES - "BOOKS OF REMEMBRANCE"

We have put out the “Memorial Books” for you to write the names of all your deceased loved ones who have died and who you would like to have remembered in a special way during our All Souls Celebrations on Sunday, November 3rd.   “Masses of Remembrance”:  On Sunday, November 3,  there will be a special remembrance at the two morning Mass for all those who have died since last All Souls Day from Christ the Light of the World Parish and St. Joseph Parish.  Invitations are being sent to one family member of those to be remembered and are asked to notify other family members.

VETERAN'S DAY SPECIAL

On Veteran’s Day weekend, Saturday, November 9, we are going have a homemade Fried Chicken Buffet Dinner  from 3 pm – 7 pm in the Holy Name Hall.  Come and eat before or after Mass or take some home. If you thought the grilled food at the picnic was great, wait until you sample the fried chicken.

  • Special Notes:  1) All veterans eating in, eat free.  2) Every adult eating in will receive a free glass of wine.  Donation is $8.00 for adults, $5.00 children (12 & under).
  • Volunteers:  We need lots of help to make this special event a success.  We need buffet servers, prepsters (to do prep work the day before), cashiers, clean up helpers, etc.  If you want to volunteer call Ray Judy (412-518-2152) or the rectory.  This event will be a good chance for those who work during the week to give the “gift of time.”
  • Baked Goods:  we would like to have a baked goods sale.  Bring your baked goods to the hall that day.

LIFE LESSONS FROM OUR CHILDREN

Last week, one of our second grade CCD students, Jack Spence approached me with the idea that he wanted to sell “Rainbow Loom Bracelets”(a new craze lots of kids are making) after Mass outside of church and donate the money to the church.  Not wanting to diminish his enthusiasm, I suggested that he make them and that we would ask any children from the CCD program & parish who wanted to participate and get involved by making them. After speaking with some of the teachers, we are going to ask any children that want to make the Rainbow Loom Bracelets to do so.  You may drop them off at the CCD office on Sunday mornings and then after all the weekend Masses on Nov. 9/10, we will let the kids sell them.  You may purchase a Rainbow Loom Bracelet by giving a donation of any amount. The money donated will go to the Feed the Hungry for Thanksgiving.

A beginning experience weekend offers support and understanding from others suffering the same.  Find an opportunity for healing one’s loss in a caring atmosphere.  The next weekend will be held October 25 – 27 at Gilmary Center in Moon Twp.  For information www.BeginningExperience.org or call Mary (412-523-2405) or Steve (412-367-4948).

PARISH SHARE PROGRAM UPDATE

We have received $45,394.00 in outright donations and pledge payments from 184 parishioners towards assessed goal of $54,074.00.  This leaves us a balance due by December 31st of $8,680.00. If we go over our goal, we get to keep the monies here at the parish tax free.  Food for thought:  If 86  parishioners would make a $100.00 donation, we would hit our goal easily.
