Within all of our lives there are significant “transformational moments” that deeply affect us and forever change our lives.  We are experiencing one of those moments at the beginning of this year in our parish.  After much thought, discussion and prayer, the Men’s Club has unanimously decided to dissolve as an official parish organization and continue to use their talents, gifts and energy solely for the benefit of the parish and its well being.

This transformation must occur but the history of the club at this point must also be noted as well as expressing our deep gratitude and appreciation for over 25 years of contributions to the parish in many forms.  The Men’s Club has hosted as well as participated in various events, activities and projects.  They have been actively involved in projects from making pumpkin pies for the elderly shut-ins to purchasing equipment and furnishings for the church and church hall. Whenever called upon for assistance and help they have always been willing, able and available.

They have decided that they can best use their time and energy to participate in various activities within the parish for the benefit of the parish.  Their commitment to the parish is unwavering but will do it in a more “unofficial” capacity.  As pastor, I appreciate all their help, assistance and participation in the past.  It is men like these who help make my job easier and the parish better.  I admire their boldness in making this necessary and needed change rather than holding on until the death bell tolled.  I look forward to continue to working with these men in the future for the benefit of our parish.

I wish all of you a blessed and a Happy New Year.  It was wonderful spending part of the Christmas Season with my parents and with you, my original home parish CLW, in Duquesne.  As I am getting ready to return to the Seminary serving the Diocese of Buffalo, I fondly remember my time with you as you offer me love, support and encouragement from the very first moments that I arrive in town. Your warm and friendly and spirit-filled ways add to my life, touch my heart and remain part of me.  I want to say a heartfelt thank you and send my gratitude to your pastor, Fr. Dennis for his immense generosity when providing his guidance, wisdom and time to help me develop as a person and student of the church.  Most especially, I want to thank him for his gift of priestly ministry gives to CLW parish, St. Joseph Parish, to the City of Duquesne, to greater Pittsburgh communities and all whom he meets.  Fr. Dennis is truly a Pastor in every sense of the word and a role model for me as a seminarian and for all in parish life.

Also, I wish to thank each of you the parishioners for all you have done to enrich my life through your kind words, supportive smiles, your ongoing prayers and through ways you share your ministry.  I deeply treasure and cherish my time and experiences during each visit and I am welcomed home and I am proud to call Christ the Light of the World Parish my home away from home parish. I thank God for having blessed me with your presence in my life as I continue during the final stages of my seminary studies and with the grace of God, I move closer to being ordained as a transitional deacon (Fall, 2103) and as a priest (Spring, 2014.)  I look forward to the next time I see you during a visit.  Meanwhile, let us keep each other in prayer.  Again, thank you all for being a part of my priestly formation and I am forever grateful having you as part of my life.  May God continue to bless you all generously and abundantly.   I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers.  Epheisans 1 :16  John Adams (son of Bill and Mary Adams)
