We are planning to have our “Steeler Opener Hoagie Sale” on the weekend of September 8 & 9. Anyone wishing to help make hoagies is invited to come on Saturday morning at 8 am in the [HN] Hall. It takes about 3 hours. What a great way to volunteer and help your parish. Hoagies are still $5.00 each. You can place an order and call the rectory. How about taking orders at work and distributing them on Monday.
KNITTING FOR THOSE IN NEED
Dust off those knitting needles and crochet hooks. Let’s get together and craft some baby blankets and booties, lap robes and hats. Members of our parish would like to start a knit/crochet group that could share their talents with those in need of warm blankets and warm wishes and have some fun! No experience – no problem. Group is in the planning stage. For information, call Diane Cook (412-672-4815.)
HOMELESS SHELTER NEEDS
The Common Ministries Homeless Men’s Shelter has been helping homeless men for 30 years. Every night 25 homeless men find safe and comfortable shelter and every day of the week have the chance to shower, do laundry and have a hot meal. Particular needs: We have become aware of some of their needs. Twin Size sheets, bath towels, toiletries (deodorant sticks, shampoo, bar soap, toothpaste.) If you could donate any of these items, drop them off in the church vestibules during the month of September. Mark the bags “Homeless.” Holly Opatick of our parish will deliver them.
PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING
Fr. Dennis has scheduled a “Joint Parish Pastoral Council Meeting” to be held on Wednesday, September 19 beginning at 6:30 pm in the Holy Name Hall. All members and staff personnel should plan to be present. Any interested parishioners are always invited to come, be present and be informed.
IS GOD CALLING YOU TO BE A CATHOLIC?
Have you been searching for a deeper meaning in your life? Is something missing? Do you need a new direction for your life’s journey? Does your life seem unsettled? Have you thought about the fact that God may be nudging you to enter into a process and become a Catholic? To find an answer to these questions, you might want to consider entering into the “Process of Christian Initiation.” This process formally begins on Monday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 pm in the Holy Name Hall. Questions? Call Fr. Dennis.
Who is this process for? If you have never been baptized, or were baptized in another religion other than Catholic or was baptized Catholic and did not receive any other sacraments, then this is the process for you.
MINISTRY TO PERSONS WITH HIV/AIDS

Over the years, the face of this disease, its treatments and our caring outreach has changed dramatically. Recently, Fr. Dennis met with the Director of the Pgh. Aids task force, Chuck Christan and the community outreach director, Shennod Moore to discuss how we might work together to intensify a spiritual component of care for persons with HIV/AIDS in a faith based environment, as well as learning and discussing how we could help and be supportive of one another. All care team members, as well as those interested in being part of this ministry or anyone else is invited to an informational, educational gathering on Sunday, September 9 at 1:00 pm in the Holy Name Hall.
