At 4:30 pm on Friday May 25 the world of one of our 90 year old parishioners, Edmund Lewandowski was drastically changed.  The house that he built 43 years ago in which he raised his family and found peace, comfort and security was demolished by a fire, which began in the next door neighbor’s house.  Edmund is safe, living with his son, Dennis but now the shock of this devastating reality has begun to set in and take an emotional toll on him.   I talked with his son, Fr. Tom who said Edmund is depressed and giving up.  We, the parishes are going to respond in some physical way once the family lets us know their needs.  However, right now we can give emotional and spiritual support to Edmund.  I am asking everyone to send cards, notes and letters of support to Edmund.   Send them to:  Edmund Lewandowski, % Fr. Tom Lewandowski, St. Camillus Church, 314 W. Englewood Ave., New Castle, Pa. 16105

We have a variety of greenery from the Easter altars for sale, as well as lily bulbs.  These plants include:  pothos, ferns, palms, Chinese lilies.  If you wish any, call the rectory.  They are $10.00 each.

We would like to welcome Todd & Mary Lebowitz and their children, Brooke and Brittany who have joined our parish this week.

Congratulations to the family of Gunnar Lee Stubenrauch, who is being baptized into God’s family this weekend.

  • NEWS:  Once again, this year we have had a tremendous response to play in our annual golf outing.  There are only a couple of foursomes available for players left.  Give us a call this week if you are interested.  Dinners:  If anyone wishes to come to the outing for dinner, you are invited to do so.  Dinners are $35.00.  Call us at the rectory to make your reservation by June 15.  Volunteers:   All volunteers should be at the Golf Club by 9:30 am.   Dinners for volunteers are $27.00.   Tickets:  Raffle ticket returns need to be returned no later than 12 noon on June 18.
  • NEEDS:  We still need about a half dozen or so Specialty Baskets/Gifts for the Chinese auction.  Anyone wishing to donate one at a $50.00 level is invited to do so OR how about donating a couple of gifts cards so we can put together a nice prize for this auction.  If you can help in this way, drop off the items either at Holy Name Rectory by Friday, June 15 or at the Holy Name Hall, Thursday evening, June 14.  All donations are gratefully accepted.

Bring in your items for the Flea Market beginning this Tuesday, June 12. This event will be held on July 6, 7, 9 (Friday, Saturday, Monday) from 8 am – 2 pm in the HN Hall.  We will have everything imaginable, including furniture, appliances, household items, etc.  You will be able to furnish an apartment or house with all the donations. Donations:  We will begin to accept the items you wish to donate on Tuesday, June 12 from 9 am – 12 noon.  Drop off times:  Weekdays (Monday thru Friday – 9 am – 12 noon) and Weekends (Saturdays – 9 – 12 noon, before and after Saturday evening Mass and Sunday mornings before or after 10 am Mass. Tuesday, July 3 will be the last day to make donations.

  • On Lookout:  We have been made aware of large ticket items to be donated – an electric stove, a full dining room set, kitchen items, signed civil war prints, and signed “show prints.”   If you might be interested, give Fr. Dennis a call.

Christ the Light of the World Parish and St. Joseph Parish are again on the “cutting edge.”  In order to meet the need of our growing CCD program and help our busy families for the first time this year beginning in August, we will be offering “online registration.”  We will still be offering “in person” registration for parents who would like to come in and meet with the teachers to discuss this year’s current curriculum or any issues relating to your child.  Look for the announcement in the bulletin with both types of registration dates.  This is an exciting opportunity for you and us.

On the weekend of July 7/8, we will celebrate the “Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick” after the 5:00 pm, Saturday evening Mass and the 10:00 am, Sunday morning Mass.  This sacrament is for those who are sick, aged, infirmed in anyway.  We pray for and ask God’s healing blessings for strength for all those who feel they need it.  We believe in spiritual, psychological, emotional healing as well as physical healing if He so wills.

Due to the inaccessibility of the HN hall in June & July, the Men’s Spiritual Focus Group will not meet those months.  We will resume our monthly meetings August 16th.

Christian Mothers will meet on Tuesday, June 19.  Rosary will be prayed at 11:45 followed by Mass at 12:00 noon in St. Hedwig Church.  There will be a meeting and roast beef luncheon in the St. Hedwig Hall immediately after Mass. Cost is $5.00 for members.  Election of officers will take place during the meeting. For information call, Pat Funk (412-466-5568.)

We are in the process of recruiting altar servers to serve at our weekend Masses. Any boy or girl, 5th grade and older is invited to participate in this special ministry to serve at the altar.  We will be recruiting during the summer and begin training when school starts, so that you will be ready for the Fall scheduling time frame.  I hope parents encourage their children to participate.  If interested, give Fr. Dennis a call.

If you are a victim of abuse, the Diocese offers assistance with counseling, spiritual direction and referrals to other supportive services.  Call the Diocesan Coordinator (1-888-808-1235.)
