THANK YOU

We would like to thank the family and friends of Paul Simurda, who recently died and who asked for donations in his memory and honor to Christ the Light of the World Parish (2 for 1 challenge).  We are grateful for the donations totaling $1,910.00.

HOMEMADE HOAGIE SALE

We will be selling homemade Italian hoagies, next weekend, December 1/2 at all the Masses and Saturday morning in the [HN] hall from 9 am- 11 am.  They are $5.00 each.  Volunteers:  Come and give 3 hours of your time.  We start at 8 am.  There are about 30 volunteers but the more the merrier. Sellers:  If you can, why not sell some at work.  Take them with you Monday morning.  We have had a good response to this idea.  Orders:  Call the rectory to place your order.   For those doing Christmas shopping, get these for your family’s dinner.

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY RAFFLE

Once again, we will be having a “Stocking Stuffer Holiday Raffle” in both parishes.  This week the invitations and tickets will be mailed out to you.  Each ticket is $10.00 with 30 chances to win.  The raffle will be based on the 3 digit PA. daily lottery number.  It will begin on December 25, 2012 and continue until January 25, 2013.  There will be a $100.00 dollar winner each day.  SPECIAL PRIZE: Christmas Day and New Years Day - $200.00 winners.  After sending out the tickets, we still have about 200 tickets for each parish to sell.   So, if you are able to buy a few extras, we would encourage you to do so, so that this fundraiser can be most beneficial to the parishes as possible.  Just send your donation in the mail and we will send you as many tickets as you want or stop by the rectory.  Returns can be made via the collection basket or by mail.

CEMETERY NEWS - GRAVES FOR SALE

It has been so wonderful to receive compliments on how well our 3 parish cemeteries are maintained and manicured. The accolades should go to the workers who are dedicated and view this work as a ministry to our deceased loved ones. However, the cost to operate the cemeteries has skyrocketed (i.e. at the St. Joseph cemetery, we had to take funds from the parish to pay the cemetery staff during the summer, since there was no income because of a significant decrease in burials. This is not a good business practice.  Also, we are still the most reasonable in pricing of all the area cemeteries.

Graves For Sale: Beginning in January, there will be a price increase in all areas related to the cemeteries (Holy Name, St. Hedwig, St. Joseph.)  In order for you to avoid the increase cost of graves, we are making you a special offer.  From November 11 thru December 11, you may purchase graves at the present cost ($600.00, single grave and $1,050.00, double – parishioner or non-parishioner.) After December 31, the cost of a single grave will be $800.00 and a double will be $1,600.00.  Call the rectory, we will take your name and phone.  One of the cemetery staff will set an appointment to meet with you, show you the graves available and write a bill of sale.  Due to this particular situation, there are no payment plans available through the cemetery or parish.

CHRISTMAS SEALS

The Knights of Columbus will be distributing Christmas seals after all the Masses next weekend, Nov. 24 & 25.  The donations go to fund St. Anthony School for Exceptional Children and Maguire Home for mentally and physically challenged children and adults.

OUTSIDE PARISH NEWS

Homeville VFD is collecting new toys for kids of all ages or donations for toys for tots from now until December 15, 2012.  We will be able to pick them up or you can drop them off at the firehall. Call (412-461-9033) or Kevin Ruhl (412-969-3636.)

PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN

Diocesan Abuse Response Number:  We offer assistance with counseling, spiritual direction and referrals to other supportive services.  For information call: (412-456-3060) or (1-888-808-1235.)

PARISH SHARE PROGRAM UPDATE

To date, we have received $40,919.00 in outright donations and pledge payments towards our goal of $58,628.00 from 160 donors.  Our remaining balance which must be paid by December 31 is $17,709.00.  If anyone can help defray this expense, please do what you can.  If we don’t hit our goal we will have to take it from our savings thus diminishing the impact of our 2 for 1 challenge.
