HONORING AND REMEMBERING OUR VETERANS
It is with great pride that we are able to honor all the men and women who have served our country in the armed forces. On Saturday evening, November 10, at the 5:00 pm Mass, we will honor and remember the men and women who served in any branch of the armed forces in wartime or in time of peace. We would ask that you bring something special with you to the Mass or some military memento left by a loved one (i.e. a medal, uniform, picture, etc.) These will be blest during the mass that day.
ALL SAINTS - A HOLY DAY
This Thursday, November 1 is a holy day. Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon (Holy Name) & 6:00 pm (St. Joseph).
REST IN PEACE
Please remember Elizabeth “Betty” Falvo who died and was buried this past week.
ELECTION DAY PASTA BUFFET SUPPER
With all the new ideas and activity coming forth recently, we decided to continue this exciting time by reframing our annual Election Day dinner. The parish is going to host a “Pasta Buffet Supper” on Tuesday, November 6 in the Holy Name Hall from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. We hope this will be a success so we can attempt other creative endeavors in the future. Cost of the dinner is $6.00 – adults and $3.00 - first child (12 & under, children after the first child under 12 yrs. old – EAT FREE.) You may eat in or take out.
- Volunteers – we need volunteers to help serve at the buffet. If you can give us a few hours, just call the rectory and leave your name.
- Baked Goods – everyone is asked to bake something and bring it to the church hall that day or drop your donation off at the rectory the day before.
JOINT PARISH BOOK CLUB BEING FORMED
Attention Bookworms!! Our parish is forming a “book club.” This book club will be a great way to meet new friends and meet other members of our parishes, enjoy a light snack and read a good book along the way. The initial reading list has been pre-selected: (4 titles with a Christian based theme.) Each member will be responsible to purchase their own book or e-book. The first book we will tackle is “Same Kind of Different as Me,” by Ron Hall and Denver Moore. The format is simple: Read the selected book in approximately one month; then we will come together and analyze the book using a formatted list of questions, a free – associated discussion may follow. If you are interested in joining, call Dave Pribish (412-664-7370.) An initial meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 29 at 6:30 pm, Holy Name Hall.
I have been informed by Fr. Fred Cain, VF the Vicar of Vicariate #2 that he will be making his pastoral visit to both of our parishes on Tuesday, October 30, 2012. All staff members are to make themselves present and available on that day beginning at 2:30 pm. Fr. Cain will convene a meeting with all office staff, music ministers, CCD program manager and maintenance personnel. At 4:00 pm he will meet with the pastor. At 6:30 pm, in the Holy Name Hall, he will meet jointly with both Pastoral Council and Finance Council members of both parishes.
This past week, I have received checks from the Men’s Club and Christian Mothers for the recently purchased and installed AED devices. We would like to thank them for making this necessary purchase possible. This makes 6 devices that we have been able to acquire for our parishes.
FOCUS GROUPS - ALIVE AND WELL
One of the most excitingly and enriching spiritual activities that has occurred over the last 2 years in our parishes has been our “Men’s and Women’s Spiritual Focus Groups.” The groups are always open to new members who wish to enrich their faith, their spirituality, and their own personal life. What the Men’s Spiritual Focus has done for me: I think the single biggest thing I have gotten from our spiritual group, is the wonderful trust and bonding evidenced by all who participate. You know that everyone sincerely cares about whatever problems and concerns you have and are willing to try to help via suggestions and prayers. The other nice thing is you can be totally candid about whatever it is that is on your mind and have no fear that it will ever leave the room. This cannot be said for many situations we encounter in life. The spiritual group has allowed me to be more opening my dealings with others and has made me more aware of peoples problems and the need to help if I can.
The next meeting of the Men’s Spiritual Focus Group will be held on Thursday, November 8, 6:30 pm in HN Hall. It may be the spark that you need or are looking for in your life to make it more meaningful and enriching!!
