“Books of Rememembrance”  -  We have put out the “Memorial Books” for you to write the names of all your deceased loved ones who have died and who you would like to have remembered in a special way during our All Souls Celebration next weekend, Sunday, October 28.

“Masses of Remembrance”
-  On Sunday, October 28, there will be a special remembrance at the two morning Masses of all those who have died and were buried since last All Souls day from Christ the Light of the World Parish and St. Joseph Parish.  Invitations will be sent to one family member of those to be remembered and are asked to notify your other family members and friends.

This sale will take place after all the weekend Masses next weekend, October 27/28 and Saturday morning in the [HN] Hall from 9 – 11 am.  Volunteers:   Come give 3 hours of your time starting at 8 am on Saturday for the benefit of your parish.  28 regulars show up. The more the merrier.

The Christian Mothers are having a “Take Out ONLY Stuffed Cabbage Sale” on Tuesday, October 23 from 3pm to 6 pm in St. Hedwig Church Hall.  Preorders are being taken by Pat Funk (412-466-5568) & Carol Worek (412-466-0748). Deadline for orders is Friday, October 19th.

We are now ready to begin training for those who wish to be trained on how to use the defibulators in case of an emergency.  I would ask that all CCD teachers, ushers, and other liturgical ministers and any parishioner of both parishes to consider taking this training.  It will be held on Tuesday evening, October 23 at 6:30 pm in the Holy Name Hall.  The training should last about 1 hour.  To register, call the rectory and leave your name.  The training will be done by the company representative.

Attention Bookworms!!  Have you ever wanted to join a book club but never found the right one?  Our parishes may have the right one for you!  This book club will be a great way to meet new friends and meet other members of our parishes, enjoy a light snack and read a good book along the way. The initial reading list has been pre-selected: (4 titles with a Christian based theme.) Each member will be responsible to purchase their own book or e-book.  The first book we will tackle is “Same Kind of Different as Me,” by Ron Hall and Denver Moore.  The format is simple:  Read the selected book in approximately one month; then we will come together and analyze the book using a formatted list of questions, a free – associated discussion may follow.  The goal is to tap into the words, lift out a spiritual message and apply it to our daily lives.  If you are interested in joining, call Dave Pribish (412-664-7370.) An initial meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 29 at 7:00 pm.   Location to be determined, once we see the level of interest.

I have been informed by Fr. Fred Cain, VF the Vicar of Vicariate #2 that he will be making his pastoral visit to both of our parishes on Tuesday, October 30, 2012.  All staff members are to make themselves present and available on that day beginning at 2:30 pm.  Fr. Cain will convene a meeting with all office staff, music ministers, CCD program manager and maintenance personnel.  At 4:00 pm he will meet with the pastor.  At 6:30 pm, in the Holy Name Hall, he will meet jointly with both Pastoral Council and Finance Council members of both parishes.

One of the most excitingly and enriching spiritual activities that has occurred over the last 2 years in our parishes has been our “Men’s and Women’s Spiritual Focus Groups.”  The groups are always open to new members who wish to enrich their faith, their spirituality, and their own personal life.  What the Men’s Spiritual Focus has done for me: Being a catholic male in today’s society is a real challenge.  We are called to be spouses, fathers, mentors, friends and co-workers.  In an attempt to be all things to all people in our lives we sometimes fail, fall down or lay down.  In my case, I always lived the notion that “God helps those who help themselves.” I couldn’t have been more wrong.  Discussing my successes, failures and my perceived failures with my friends, yes my group members are all now friends of mine, I found that I was not alone in the quest to be a better version of myself.  Through the intercession of the Holy Spirit, through my friends understanding and support along with Fr. Dennis’s quiet reflections and firm challenges, I have found a better version of myself.  God wants us to succeed in all ventures that bring us closer to Him and I now have no reservations with asking Him for His help. This has strengthened my relationship with the Lord, opened my acceptance of the Holy Spirit in my life and deepened my appreciation of the sacrifices that Jesus made for all of us.  I have the group to thank for helping me overcome this life long burden that I placed upon myself and other crosses that I have bore.

The next meeting of the Men’s Spiritual Focus Group will be held on Thursday, November 8, 6:30 pm in HN Hall. It may be the spark that you need or are looking for in your life to make it more meaningful and enriching!!
