ALL THINGS NEW
New Times for CCD Classes: Classes will resume on the weekend, January 8 and classes will be held from 10:00 am to 11:15 am. This change was made in part so parents could go with their children to Mass, as well as fulfill their responsibility to provide a religious education. They can attend before or after CCD Classes.
PLAYOFF RUN HOAGIE SALE
Our homemade hoagie sale returns this weekend of January 7 & 8, just in time for the Steelers run in the playoffs. This week we get to beat Denver. This has been a great fundraiser for the parish and everyone’s participation is vital. Stop by after Mass today and pick some up to enjoy the games. You could even get a couple for some people who may not be able to get them. Give a gift on the “Feast of the Epiphany,” the feast of gifts.

CUSTOM KITCHEN CABINETS FOR SALE
Recently, a woman from Mt. Lebanon donated about $20,000.00 worth of custom kitchen cabinets to Christ the Light of the World Parish in hopes that we could use them to update the rectory kitchen. Since they won’t fit the rectory kitchen, we are going to make them available for sale to the parishioners at bargain basement prices. These custom built kitchen cabinets are cherry wood, lighter stain with all wood construction and raised panel doors. Many pieces of trim available including crown molding.
Add one or a couple to a needed storage area. You can purchase them by the piece or buy them all. Listing of cabinets, style and pricing is available by calling Ray Judy (412-518-2152.) Open viewing will be held on Saturday, January 14 from 8 am – 11 am. All proceeds benefit Christ the Light of the World Parish.
YEAR END CONTRIBUTION STATEMENTS
We would like to notify all of our parishioners that their 2011 contribution statements are available for your annual income tax preparation. You can call the rectory or leave your name on the voice mail and we will prepare them. We will send them to you the Friday after you call.
PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN
According to the expanded Diocesan Policy everyone who volunteers and ministers in the parish or any Diocesan institution must have clearances completed and attend a informational learning workshop on child sexual abuse. We are trying to facilitate this process in an orderly manner as a “proactive” rather than a “reactive” approach. In light of the recent Penn State situation and the recent accusations against our Bishop, I would think that everyone would be willing to protect themselves, the parish, your pastor and most especially anyone who has been victimized. We have had 85% completion and compliance from our ministers and volunteers. Our goal is to have everyone compliant by the end of 2012.
How to get compliant:
- Pick up or ask us to send you the folder for you to fill out the necessary information. On line participation: if you choose you can do the paperwork “on line.” If you have any questions, call or email the safe environment coordinator, her information is at the end of the announcement.
- Attend the informational workshop: The Diocese has been very cooperative in allowing us to sponsor them at our own parish, so you don’t have to travel far. It will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2012 in Holy Name Hall beginning at 9 am. To register, call Terry Fuller (412-469-0196) or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Questions: You can contact our parish safe environment coordinator, Colleen Whitney (412-461-8318) or at (email@example.com)
LAST WEEKEND'S HOMILY HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT
Last weekend, December 31 & January 1, during the homily, I suggested a “homework assignment” for everyone to do for the entire year. Everyone was asked to begin each day with the simple prayer/blessing from the Book of Numbers (6:22 – 27.) I have had several requests for it. It is adapted for your personal use. So here it is:
“The Lord Bless ME and keep ME; the Lord make his face shine upon ME and be gracious to ME; the Lord turn his face towards ME and give ME peace.
