Please remember Shirley Thomas, who died and rose to new life this week.

FEBRUARY 3 - FEAST OF ST. BLAISE - BLESSING OF THROATS

This coming Friday, February 3 is the Feast of St. Blaise.  On that day, we as Catholics celebrate the sacramental tradition of having our throats blest.  In order to give more people the opportunity to participate in celebrating this sacramental, the 8:00 am Mass at St. Joseph Church will be moved to 12:00 noon in St. Joseph Church.  This sacramental celebration acknowledges the fact we pray for and believe in God’s healing power in our lives.

PARENTS INSTRUCTION FOR FIRST RECONCILIATION AND FIRST COMMUNION

In our continual journey to be accommodating to our busy parents, as well as fulfill our responsibility to provide our parents with quality religious education for you and your children, we are going to have the “Parents Preparation Session” after the 11:30 am Mass next Sunday, January 29.  This is so you won’t have to return during the week night for this session.  Parents and children will go to Holy Name Hall after Mass for a snack.  The children will then go to the CCD Center for an activity, while the students teacher and myself let you know of the expectations and your responsibility in preparing your child.  We will be handing out guidelines, study guides and student activity books.

HOLIDAY RAFFLE WINNERS

Jan. 19 (#108 – Rich Goodge, Jan. 20 (#590 – Gerry Kampert), Jan. 21 (#714 – Billy Bevan Jr.), Jan. 22 (#025 – Joseph Johnson, Jan. 23 (#523 – Lefty Adams), Jan. 24 (#176 – Julia Falenski), Jan. 25 (#265 – Kathy Kuszaj).  We would like to thank all those who have participated in helping to continue to make our parish financially viable.

(STEELERLESS) SUPERBOWL HOAGIE SALE

On the weekend of the Superbowl, February 4/5, we will be having another “Super Hoagie Sale.”  You can order yours by calling Holy Name Rectory, or pick them up before or after the weekend Masses or stop by Saturday morning.  This project has been of great benefit for our parish.

  • Volunteers:  last month we had 30 volunteers who helped make the hoagies.  Because of this great response, we were finished in less than 3 hours.  The more volunteers we have the quicker we can accomplish our task.  Stop by for a couple of hours.  It is not only a benefit to the parish, but a great way to socialize and meet some great people from your parish, especially it is an opportunity for people who work and can’t often volunteer for parish activities.
  • Sellers:  how about putting up an order sheet at work, take the orders and bring them to work on Monday. We sold over 100 hoagies that way last time.  Once your co-workers try them, they will want them all the time.

BREAST CANCER BENEFIT PLANNING MEETING

We want to get a running start for this year’s benefit.  It has been a huge success in the past and we want to make it successful again.  Anyone wishing to help in the planning and would like to participate is invited to come to the initial meeting on Thursday evening, February 2nd at 6:30 pm in the [HN] Hall.   If you would like to help but can’t attend this meeting, contact Kathy Kuszaj (412-600-5405) or kkuszaj@whemco.com.

PASTOR'S WISHLIST

In our continual journey to keep the physical plant of the parish looking good and making in house needed improvements, we have realized that there are some basic tools we do not have and are necessary to accomplish our present, ongoing and future tasks in a professional manner.   If anyone would like to purchase a new or used table saw (portable type) and/or a compound sliding miter saw with a 12” blade, call Ray Judy (412-518-2152.)

YEAR END CONTRIBUTION STATEMENTS

We would like to notify all of our parishioners that their 2011 contribution statements are available for your annual income tax preparation.  You can call the rectory or leave your name on the voice mail and we will prepare them.  We will send them to you the Friday after you call.
