MEN'S SPIRITUAL FOCUS GROUP

All men of both parishes are invited to become part of the monthly “Men’s Spiritual Focus Group.” We will be meeting this month on Thursday, July 14 at 6:30 pm in the Holy Name Hall.  This group is designed to help men come together to help cope with the issues that they uniquely as men share in relation to self, church, family and God.  For those who have participated regularly, this has been a rewarding and enriching experience. We have men in their 20’s through their 70’s sharing intergenerationaly with one another.  Please come and make you life enriching.

SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK

In order to maximize the celebration of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick by giving as many people as possible the opportunity to be anointed, we are going to celebrate the sacrament at the end of Mass on Saturday, July 23 at 5:00 pm and Sunday, July 24 at 10:00 am.  (Since there is no Mass following these Masses, Fr. Dennis will not have to rush off.) Most of our people gather at weekend Liturgy thus making it possible for people to get transportation as well as having the sacrament witnessed by the worshipping community.

  • Who is it for:  anyone of any age who has a chronic illness, who is aging or elderly, who has a disability or sickness, who has a physical, mental or spiritual difficulty or any other sickness or difficulty.
  • What does it do:  We ask and believe in God’s healing in a physical way, but also that we will receive the spiritual strength to deal with our sickness, illness or particular difficulty.

HOLY NAME CHURCH & DUQUESNE MILL WORKS CIRCA 1970

Dear Fr. Dennis:  I grew up in East McKeesport and my imagination was always stirred by the mills and railroads of the Mon Valley.  One of my first photography efforts was a night shot of the Duquesne Works using a tripod and hand held light meter.  I made this shot from the back of the Eastland shopping plaza.  I thought you and your parishioners would like to see what Holy Name Church presided over around 1970. The glow of the mill is fascinating and frightening and the lights of Duquesne and West Mifflin provide and interesting counterpoint – but as I studied the photo I realized that Holy Name Church – now part of Christ the Light of the World Parish is indeed the Light of the World – look at the light shining atop the silhouette of the church near the upper right hand corner of the photo (the bright stream of light to the left is Kennedy Ave. The name was aptly chosen for the consolidated parish.  To view this photo, visit the photo gallery.

PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN UPDATES

We would like to remind everyone that all ministers and volunteers should be filling out their paperwork for clearances.  If you haven’t done them yet, you can pick up the paperwork at either church rectory.  The next 2 hour workshop for those who haven’t attended, will be here on Sunday, August 28. This will give everyone the chance to get everything done over the summer months.

  • Protecting God’s children workshop:   For those who can’t make the August 28 workshop at CLW, there is one being held at Holy Angels in Hays from 9 – 12 noon on Saturday, June 25.   Call (412-461-6906 x23) to register.
  • References:  For those of you filling out the necessary paperwork, it is important that you put in all the information, especially the part entitled “references.”  The computer will not let us input your information unless it is filled out and we don’t want to complicate your work any more than necessary.
