SUMMER FLEA MARKET NEWS

The preparations for our “Indoor/Outdoor Summer Flea Market” are underway.  It will be held Friday, Saturday & Monday, July 8, 9 & 11 from 8 am – 2 pm.   The [HN] hall will be open from 9 – 12 noon each weekday and from 9 am – 11 am, Saturdays and Sundays to drop off your donated items.  It is time to start gathering up your households goods to be sold.   We accept anything except tires, plants, clothes and computer equipment.

NEEDS:   1) New Items or Specialty Baskets -  for the Chinese auction.  Bring them to the hall at any time or call Mary Ann Valentovish (412-466-5140) to let her know.  2) Volunteer: Fr. Dennis needs help setting up and tearing down the outdoor part of the flea market.  We begin at 7 am each day and tear down around 1:30 pm.  It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours  of time to set up and tear down.  If you can help in this way, give him a call.  3) Baked Goods: We sell baked goods every day of the sale.  How about baking something for one or both days?   4) Food Items Donations:  every little bit helps.  Can you donate a couple packages of hot dogs;  case of pepsi or water?  How about a bowl of macaroni or potato salad?  Whatever you can do,  goes a long way to helping make this event a success for the parish. If everyone does a little, a lot is accomplished.  If you can participate in this way, call the rectory and let us know how you will help.

CCD TEACHER NEEDED

Have you ever thought about participating in this wonderful ministry by passing on faith to our children through the educational ministry and teaching in our CCD program.  We are in need of a teacher for our 4th grade students.  Remember we meet every other week during the school year.  We hope that someone will answer God’s invitation to respond in this way and help make a difference in the lives of our children.  If you may be interested, feel called or have any questions, call our coordinator Colleen Whitney (412-461-8318) or email her at ccd@christthelightoftheworld.org or give Fr. Dennis a call.

REST IN PEACE

Please remember Lillian Colella and Lou Goldman, who died and rose to new life with the Lord this week.

PLANTS FOR SALE

We are selling the green plants that adorned the altar during the Easter season.  They include: ferns, pothos, palms and Chinese lilies.  Anyone one wishing any just let us know.  They are $10.00 each.

PARISH SHARE PROGRAM - CREATIVE GIVING

Over the past several months several people have come forward with suggestions on how to meet our yearly “Parish Share Assessment.”  One viable suggestion was to place in our envelope packets one entitled, “Extra Parish Share donation.”  Those suggesting and the parish finance council felt that instead of always giving to the second collections outside the parish, that some people might want to keep their contributions here for the benefit of the parish. The finance council concurred with the suggestion.  Therefore, for anyone who wishes to participate in this way, the envelope will appear in the next month’s mailing.  This contribution will help meet our goal and lower our assessment next year.

PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN UPDATES

We would like to remind everyone that all ministers and volunteers should be filling out their paperwork for clearances.  If you haven’t done them yet, you can pick up the paperwork at either church rectory.  The next 2 hour workshop for those who haven’t attended, will be here on Sunday, August 28. This will give everyone the chance to get everything done over the summer months.

  • Protecting God’s children workshop:   For those who can’t make the August 28 workshop at CLW, there is one being held at Holy Angels in Hays from 9 – 12 noon on Saturday, June 25.   Call (412-461-6906 x23) to register.

WALK/RUN FOR PROSTRATE CANCER CURE

On Pittsburgh’s Northshore, there will be a walk/run on Father’s Day, June 19.   Several people from our parish will be walking/running in honor of Jack “The Pianoman” Jubak who died this past year. All the monies raised in his name will be sent to the THYCA (Thyroid Cancer Ass.)  If you can join them, please do so.  If not, you may send donations to Jaimie Jubak, 2519 Campbell Circle, West Mifflin, 15122.  Please make your checks to THYCA.

NEWS FROM OUR ADOPTED TROOPS

Dear Steven:  Thank you so much for the care package.  I don’t think I could explain how nice it is to get stuff from back in the United States.   I am 20 years old and from Lincoln, Nebraska. So far, I have been to Korea, Kansas and Afghanistan.  I’m in the infantry, which means I carry a gun and go find the bad guys.  Our current mission here is to get all the people who live here to listen to the government that we (the U.S.) helped set up.  We’re here also to help the Afghan police and army fight the Taliban.  Where I am at is a lot of mountains.  It’s mostly dry and rocky here with very little amount of plants.  I look forward to your next letter.  I’m sorry I could not send you a picture of me but I don’t have any with me.  Thanks again for the package.……..God Bless  you, Gary Burruss Jr.
