JOINT PARISH GOLF OUTING NEWS

RAFFLE:   All Cash Raffle:  This year, we are adding a “Bonus Prize” to the raffle.  Each family has been mailed (4) tickets, which you are being asked to sell or purchase.  Each ticket has two possible winning numbers on the PA  Lottery, June 20, 2011, four digit number.  The winning number gets $1,000.00 cash, the winning number above and below gets $250.00 each.  The Bonus Prize is that if any of those (3) winning numbers hit again on July 4, 2011, you get a prize of $10,000.00. If anyone needs extra tickets to buy or sell , just send us the money and we will send you the tickets.  This will help insure that we get the most benefit for our parishes.

GOLF OUTING – JUNE 20, 2011: We hope that everyone will participate in some way to make our “Ed Capristo Memorial Joint Parish Golf Outing and Raffle” a huge success.   There are flyers around all the churches detailing the many ways you can participate.  This is a very beneficial fundraiser for both of our parishes and everyone’s participation is necessary and vital as we strive to keep our parishes alive and going.

ATTENTION PARENTS OF NEWBORNS AND INFANTS

Fr. Dennis has been made aware of a program at which one of our parishioners volunteers her services.  The program is called, “Newborns is Need.”  This charity specializes in addressing the needs of babies facing health or economic crisis.  It’s mission is “serving all of God’s children” throughout the United States.  They provide and are in need of “Gently used baby clothes – newborns to 12 months".  Since we have lots of baptisms, we thought that there might be families whose newborn children quickly outgrow their infant clothes.  If you have any and would like to donate them for this cause, just gather them up and bring them to church on the weekend.  Drop them off in the vestibule of any of our churches and we will get them delivered.  It seems as though people, your family, friends or relatives have lots of baby clothes not being used.  We will accept these donations during the month of May.  When the need arises again, or you have baby items during the rest of the year and want to donate them, just let us know.

PICTURES WANTED

We are requesting everyone to send their Confirmation and Communion Pictures to our parish website.  We have a photo gallery which we would like to have you and your family be a part of.  We get dozens of hits weekly on the website and it is a good way to let people know what is happening in our parish.  You can participate by sending them to tara@christthelightoftheworld.org.

FREE STROKE SCREENING

Jefferson Regional Medical Center is hosting a “Free Stroke Risk Screening” in the Holy Name Hall of Christ the Light of the World Parish on Saturday, June 4 from 9 am – 1 pm.  Ages 18 and over welcome.  No insurance required.  The screening includes:  Stroke risk survey, total cholesterol and HDL, Blood sugar level, Blood pressure check, Carbon Monoxide testing for smokers, Body fat analysis. Registration is preferred.  Screening takes approximately 30 – 45 minutes.  For information or registration, call 412-469-7100.

NEWS FROM OUR ADOPTED TROOPS

Dear Ms. Debbie:  Thank you so much for the care package.  It did bring a smile to my face.  Everything in the package was of great help.  The cookies were amazing.  It felt great to have sugar again.  Sorry if my letter seems short, I was never good at writing or spelling.  If you wish to contact me, I have an e-mail address that I can check from time to time.  Once again, thanks so much for the package.  It meant a lot.  Take care.  ………Gabriel

PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN UPDATES

We would like to remind everyone that all ministers and volunteers should be filling out their paperwork for clearances.  If you haven’t done them yet, you can pick up the paperwork at either church rectory.  The next 2 hour workshop for those who haven’t attended, will be here on Sunday, August 28. This will give everyone the chance to get everything done over the summer months.
