There are several ways that you can participate in making this event another huge success.  For full details, you can refer and pick up one of the large pink announcement flyers found around the churches.  How you can help!!  1) Come to the event. 2) Volunteer to help. 3) Make a food item to be served. 4) Donate a specialty basket or a case of pop, beer, a gift card or make a monetary donation. 5) Make a donation “in honor or in memory” of someone.

CONFIRMATION NEWS FOR PARENTS AND CANDIDATES

  • Make Up Class:  Any student who has missed one or more classes is expected to attend a makeup session to be held on Saturday, March 26 at 3:00 pm in the Holy Name Hall.  Mr. Roman will conduct the session so as to make sure the candidates fulfill their requirements to receive the Sacrament.  They will then go to 5:00 Mass and be ready to participate in the practice immediately afterwards.
  • Confirmation Practice:  will be held for about 45 minutes immediately after the 5:00 pm Mass on Saturday, March 26.  All candidates and sponsors are to attend Mass and remain for practice.  Any sponsor who is not able to be there for practice should have a candidate’s parent stand in for that evening.
  • Confirmation Night:  Bishop Zubik has requested that all candidates and sponsors be in their places by 6:30 pm the evening of Confirmation.  He will meet personally with the sponsors and candidates at that time.  BE ON TIME!

2011 PARISH SHARE PROGRAM BEGINS

The annual Parish Share Program for 2011 has begun.  Participation invitations and letters with all the needed information will be mailed this coming week.  We would ask that everyone participate with some level of contribution.  Our assessment is $47,813.00.  If we go over our goal the monies will stay in the parish tax free.  Last year, we fell short by $17,854.00 which had to be taken from parish savings thus diminishing our ability to care for our church building and property adequately. You may make a one time outright donation or make a monthly pledge over a 10 month period.  Whatever you do is greatly appreciated. Please do your part to keep our parish alive and functioning!!!

PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN CLEARANCE PROCEDURES

We will now have all our Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Ushers & Music Ministers begin the “clearance procedures.” Those who volunteer for the church are seen by children as persons who can be trusted.  Over the next few months, we will be processing our volunteers to meet the Diocesan requirements for the Protection of Children.

  • Folders with information and forms: All but a few have picked up the information folders. You are asked to fill them out and return them to either CLW or SJ rectory.  The cost of processing will be picked up by the parish. Anyone now and in the future who wants to participate in the life of the parish will need to go through this process.
  • SIGN UP ASAP for the Protecting God’s Children’s Workshop:  For the convenience of everyone, we have scheduled this workshop here in Duquesne.  It will be held on Sunday, April 3 beginning at 12:30 pm.  If you plan on attending, call the rectory or send us an email so we might have all the proper materials ready. Please respond by March 28.  This is a great opportunity to “get this requirement over with” before Easter and before the warm weather approaches.  All Christ the Light of the World Parish and St. Joseph Parish parishioners who minister or volunteer may attend.   Call or email, register NOW!
  • Questions:  you can contact our Parish Safe Environment Coordinator, Colleen Whitney (412-461-8318) or by email (ccd@christthelightoftheworld.org.)
