RITE AND SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION

We will celebrate this sacrament in guilt-free, non-judgmental way after all weekend Masses next weekend on December 17 & 18.

BE A WELCOMING PARISH COMMUNITY

The holidays are a special time of the year to show what a “welcoming community” we are to the many guests and visitors who come to our parishes in Duquesne to experience our beautiful liturgies.  Please remember that first impressions are lasting impressions.  In order to make a good and lasting impression on our visitors and guests, I would ask everyone to refrain from “saving seats” at all of our Masses.  If your family members must sit together then make sure you tell them what time Mass is and get there early.  There is nothing more unwelcoming to see people come to Mass to be told that “this seat is for someone else” and not move over to be welcoming.  Many of those who are having seats saved for them don’t come to Mass regularly anyway.

CHRISTMAS EVE AND CHRISTMAS DAY MASSES

  • Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) – St. Joseph (4:00 pm), Holy Name (6:00 pm), Holy Name (9:00 pm)
  • Christmas Day (Dec. 25) – St. Hedwig (8:30 am), St. Joseph (10:00 am)

REST IN PEACE

Please remember  Patricia Lengyel, Dorothy Derick, Ken Pollock and Mark Bujdos, who died and rose to new life with the Lord this past week.

HOLIDAY LIGHTS

Christ the Light of the World /St. Joseph Choir will be singing for Kennywood’s Holiday Lights on Sunday, December 18 at 6:30 pm.  Come to the park decked in holiday glory and support the parish choir.

CHRIST THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD PARISH ON FACEBOOK

We are happy to announce that Christ the Light of the World Parish is now on “Facebook.”  Checkout our page by searching “Christ the Light of the World” on Facebook or visit the parish website and “like” us using the button at the bottom.  This is a great way for us to stay connected as a parish community and up-to-date happenings in your parish.

2012 CALENDARS AVAILABLE

The 2012 yearly calendars are available around the church for you to take.  However, the Mass schedule listed on the calendar is our old schedule.  There are labels printed with the new schedule to place over the old one.  They can be found near the calendars.  Take a label, peel off the back and place it on the area with the Mass schedule.  We would like to thank the Maloy-Schleifer and the Teichart-Gracan Funeral Homes for providing them for us.

CELEBRATING THE SEASON OF ADVENT

  • Share the Spirit of the Season:  We are asking everyone to reachout to our parishioners in nursing homes, personal care homes, assisted living facilities and the home centered elderly by sending a note or card to some or all.  This reach-out is appreciated not only by the person you touch, but it touches their families as well to know that their loved one or parent is not forgotten by their parish.  It is truly the“Spirit of the Season.”

  • Memorial Christmas Flowers:  Use your “Christmas flower” to make a donation in memory of a deceased family member, friend or loved one.  Write down their names.  Drop it in the collection or mail to the rectory until Christmas.
  • Christmas Wafers (Oplatki)These wafers will be available at Holy Name Rectory, Monday thru Friday (9 am – 5 pm) and from the ushers at the weekend Masses at Holy Name and St. Hedwig.

STOCKING STUFFER HOLIDAY RAFFLE

Here’s hoping that you participate in our “Stocking Stuffer Holiday Raffle.” It is based on the 3 digit PA. lottery from Dec. 25, 2011 to Jan. 25. 2012.  There will be $100.00 given away each day there is a winner.  You have 30 chances to win.  How you can help:  Purchase a few extras to give as Christmas gifts. Just stop by the rectory or mail your donation and how many tickets you need and we will send them to you.  We have about 100 tickets not purchased, if anyone would like one or two more, let us know. It will really make this fundraiser more beneficial for your parish.

2012 STUDENT CONTRIBUTION ENVELOPES

All high school students are asked to pick up their 2012 contribution envelopes in the vestibule of the church this weekend.   All CCD students and Catholic grade school students have received theirs in the respective classrooms and schools.  If anyone hasn’t received theirs, please contact us.

MAKING A LIST AND CHECKING IT TWICE

In case Santa is especially good to some of you, we have a few needs that have arisen over the last couple of weeks.   You may be replacing these items and looking for a place for your used items.   A family needs a microwave oven or a gas stove.  Our CCD center needs a computer hard drive, the one we have presently has ceased working.

PARISH CHRISTMAS GIFT

Consider giving your parish a Christmas gift.  If you make it to our 2 for 1 challenge, it is a “gift that keeps on giving” since we get double what you give from our anonymous donor.  We all win!!
