This year, we have 7 places to help.  The new one is Resource Mothers: provides resource, education and follows pregnant mothers from conception to birth.  Jubilee Soup Kitchen: Sister Ligouri Rossner operates this food kitchen to feed the hungry and homeless.  Angels Place: provides daycare for low income student moms, so they can be educated, productive parents.  Intersection: under the direction of 2 nuns, this facility ministers to the poor and homeless and provides meals.  Michaels Place:  St. Vincent De Paul provides transitional living for motivated men who want to lead a clean, sober and responsible life after prison.  Healthy Start House:  gives women and children the chance to start a healthy life.  Gateway Braddock:  provides service to those coming from prison to transition to a work and home environment.

What better way to give thanks to God for all the blessings He has given to us than to join together as the Catholic community of the Churches of Duquesne on Thursday at the 10:00 am Mass in Holy Name Church.  We have been so blest, how could we not pause for an hour to acknowledge and give praise to the Giver of all blessings.  Cans of Coins:  Make sure you bring your monetary offering/coins for the poor and needy.

Congratulations to the family of Coraline Isabella Seath and Kendall Lynn Yeschenko, who are being baptized this weekend.

You can make a monetary donation to help a needy family of our parish for Thanksgiving.  Drop it in the collection or mail to the rectory.  Mark the envelope, “Reachout.”

Now that the “New Weekend Mass Schedule” has been approved and accepted by the Diocese, we are able to begin scheduling Masses for next year.  Because of your cooperation in the past, we are now in the position to be able to schedule 3 Masses a year, instead of two.  You will need to follow these procedures:  1) You may schedule Mass at any church at any time on a first come, first served basis. Only 2 can be scheduled on a weekend, the third mass must be scheduled during the week.  2) ONLY phone calls will be accepted, no walk-ins at the rectory will be taken.  3) Fr. Dennis will assist you personally. No other staff member can schedule Masses.  You can call him 9 am – 3 pm, Monday thru Friday at 412-469-0196.  If he is not available, leave your name and phone number and he will return your call in the order received.  4) When calling have the dates, times, places, and intentions available, so they can be scheduled efficiently.

We will again be having our “Stocking Stuffer Holiday Raffle” again this year.  Invitations and tickets to participate are being mailed this week.  It is based on the 3 digit PA. lottery from Dec. 25, 2011 to Jan. 25. 2012.  There will be $100.00 given away each day there is a winner.  You have 30 chances to win.

  • How you can help:  buy the tickets sent to you.  Purchase a few extras to give as Christmas gifts.  Just stop by the rectory or mail your donation and how many tickets you need and we will send them to you.  Sell some to family members over the Thanksgiving holiday or sell them to people at work who you always buy from.

This and other fundraising projects go a long way to keeping our parish financially stable for the future.

The Caring Ministry is hosting a Sunday after Thanksgiving Buffet Breakfast on Sunday, November 27 from 9:00 am – 1:30 pm in the Holy Name Hall.  Menu: Scrambled eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Chipped beef on Biscuits, Homefries, French toast, fresh fruit, Danish rolls, juice, coffee, tea.  Donation: Adults - $7.00, Children (1st Child -12 & under- $4.00 – other children eat free.)   All proceeds benefit the work of the Caring Ministry.

  • Family Special:  We are trying to encourage families with children to have the opportunity to come to our breakfast. Families with multiple children, only pay for 1 child and their other children eat free.
  • Volunteer:  We need volunteers to work that morning.  It is a great opportunity for people who don’t get a chance to volunteer to do so.  If you can help a few hours call Debbie Lesko (412-469-0213), Terry Fuller (412-466-4223) or email the rectory (
  • Make a Donation:  If anyone would like to make a monetary donation to help defray expenses, send it to the rectory or drop in the collection OR if you want to purchase fresh fruit or Danish (i.e. Costco) let us know.

The work on the furnace continues methodically and in a timely manner.  However, several of the parts that needed to be ordered and shipped to us have not arrived.  Until we get the furnace up and running, we will have the 8:30 am Sunday Mass and the Thursday, 12 noon Mass in Holy Name Church.  Hopefully, we will be ready to go next week.

We would like to thank everyone who volunteered to work or who donated baked goods and who came to eat on Election Day.   We had over 320 guests who were served that day.  A profit of $919.59 was realized to benefit our parish.

Join us on Wednesdays and/or Fridays from 9 – 9:30 am, lower level of St. Joseph Rectory for 2 miles of heart healthy activity.  All are welcome.  Just bring your walking shoes. Call Cheryl  (412-466-1304)
