SEASONAL MASS SCHEDULE

We have begun our “Winter Season Mass Schedule.”  It will read as follows:  there will be no 8:30 am Mass on Sunday starting January 9 and continuing until April 17 (Palm Sunday.)  During this time the Mass on Thursday afternoon will be held in Holy Name Church.

FIRST JOINT PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING

In our journey towards becoming “1 parish, 3 churches, 1 faith community,” Fr. Dennis has initiated another step in this process which should unfold in 29 months.  Both of our pastoral councils will now meet as one.  This first meeting will take place on Wednesday, January 19th in the [HN] Hall at 6:30 pm.  Mr. John Flaherty, Director of the Office of Lay Leadership and Pastoral Life, has been invited to direct this initial gathering.   This will be a workshop type meeting and will be open solely for pastoral council members, ancillary members and staff of both parishes.

STEELER PLAYOFF RUN HOAGIE SALE

This weekend, January 15/16 is the weekend of the Steelers first playoff game. They wil be sold after all the Masses at all the churches. We have had lots of good feedback about the quality and quantity of the hoagies. They will sell for $5.00 each.

STOCKING STUFFER $100.00 A DAY RAFFLE WINNERS

Jan. 7 - #538 (Carolyn Andrews);  Jan. 8 - #656 (Joan Mayhue); Jan. 9 - #109 (S. Genes); Jan. 10 - #748 (Charles Bodner); Jan. 11 - #787 – (Sue Smallwood);   Jan. 12 – #176 (unpurchased/not returned)

Famliy Calendars 2011

You will find 2011 calendars around the church designed for families with children.  They are sponsored by the Teichart – Gracan Funeral Home. Families with children are invited to take one for themselves.

GOLD RUSH TWO

We are going to have another “Gold Rush” on Saturday (10 am – 4 pm) & Sunday, January 22 & 23 (9 am – 12 noon) in the Holy Name Hall.  Dean and Don Kapolka of Kapolka Jewelers will be here to buy your gold and silver items and coins.  You are invited to have your family and friends come and get some badly needed income for themselves. This sale was beneficial to the parish.  Last time, we received a check for $3,300.00.   Everyone who came couldn’t believe how much they made on what they brought to sell.  Fr. Dennis just sold a gold pocket watch and got $1,100.00 for it.

BREAST CANCER BENEFIT PLANNING MEETING

Our first planning meeting for our annual benefit will be held on Tuesday, January 25th at 6:30 pm in the [HN] hall.  We are asking anyone who would like to help to attend this meeting.  The benefit has been so successful over the past several years because we have had lots of volunteers and participation from both parishes.  Due to the demand for tickets and need for expansion, this year’s event will be held on Saturday, April 9th at the Knights of Columbus Hall, West Mifflin.  If you want to help but cannot attend this initial meeting, call or email Kathy Kuszaj (klkpgh@yahoo.com), (412-461-6189 – home), (412-600-5405 – cell.)

THANKS

We would like to thank the family of Jeanne Boyer, who at the time of her death requested donations be made to Christ the Light of the World Parish.  We are grateful for the donations totaling $150.00

Dear Fr. Dennis:  On behalf of Sr. Peg O’Neil, our directory and all of us at the Intersection, I extend our thanks to the members of Christ the Light of the World Parish and St. Joseph Parish for the wonderful assortment of gifts that you collected for us at Thanksgiving.  The generosity of so many people provided a festive holiday for our guests and brought much joy to the men and women who come to Intersection for a hot meal and some companionship.  We are grateful for your interest and support. ………Sister Barbara Marshall
