MEN’S RETREAT - SEPT. 21, 22 & 23:  Men from St. Agnes, Christ the Light of the World, Holy Trinity, and St. Joseph Parishes are invited to gather with other parishes from the Diocese of Pittsburgh at St. Paul of the Cross Retreat Center, South Side.  Carpooling will be available.  To register or for more information, contact Paul Ruhl at 412-680-6383, pruhl@verizon.net, or contact the retreat center at 412-381-7676. 

TEAM FATHER DENNIS will be walking again this year in memory of Father Dennis.  This year’s WALK TO DEFEAT ALS is on Saturday, August 25 at Point State Park. Registration is from 8-10:00 AM. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 10:00 AM and the walk will begin following the ceremonies (~10:15 AM). Team Father Dennis participants will gather at the main tent prior to the opening ceremonies. You can sign up for the walk by going to http://web.alsa.org/goto/teamfatherdennis. In the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Grades 1st – 8th are mandatory Religious Education years for all PUBLIC SCHOOL children.  Kindergarten is optional and we will not be offering it at this time.  Our classes will be held EVERY WEEK from 9:45 AM to 11:15 AM at the CLW CCD Center location starting Sunday, September 16, 2018 through Sunday April 7, 2019 with the appropriate days off for Holidays.  Please contact Donna Lew-Buechel, Director of Religious Education, at  reofficeduqwm227@gmail.com for more information and a registration form.

Back by popular demand…this fun-filled afternoon is being planned this year at the Antonelli Event Center in Irwin for Sunday, September 9, 2018Doors will open at 12:00 noon. Lunch will be served at 1:00pm.

·       Prizes include Coach, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, and other designers. There will be a Basket auction, 50/50, and strip tickets.  Proceeds will be split between CLW and St. Joseph Parishes.
·       Price is $35.00 per person and includes lunch. Tickets sell out fast, so buy your tickets early.  Call the church office or email Debbie@christthelightoftheworld.org or send us your order and we will send your tickets.

50TH  WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION:  At St. Paul Cathedral on Sunday, October 7 at 2:30 PM.  This Mass is open to all couples who are celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary any time this year.  If you would like to attend, call Fr. Tom at the rectory at 412-469-0196 to register.  Congrats on your 50th and may you continue to reflect the presence of our Loving God in your hearts as you live out your Marriage Promises              and Covenant.

10TH ANNUAL MASS HONORING the Patroness of Poland, Our Lady of Czestochowa, will be celebrated on August 27 at 7:00 PM at St. Paul Cathedral in Oakland.  This Mass will also celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Polish Independence. NIGHT AT THE RACES:  Sponsored by K of C Stephen P. WELCOME FR. CHARLES who is here this weekend doing the Summer Missionary Appeal on behalf of the SMA Fathers in Africa.  Let us be as open as we can to share our resources with Fr. Charles and all the Missionaries who work with him in order to bring the Presence of God to all people.

FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY is a Holy Day of obligation that is going to be celebrated in the Universal Church on Wednesday, August 15.  This means that all Catholics are expected to attend Mass that day.  Please consult the schedule above for the Mass times on the Holy day.

****** AUGUST 25 PITTSBURGH WALK TO DEFEAT ALS******

TEAM FATHER DENNIS will be walking again this year in memory of Father Dennis.  This year’s Pittsburgh Walk to Defeat ALS is on Saturday, August 25 at Point State Park from 8 - 11:30 am. You can sign up for the walk by going to http://web.alsa.org/goto/teamfatherdennis.   Remember, all walkers must be registered to walk.
Our goal this year is to raise $2,500. We are hoping to reach this goal by encouraging all of our walkers to make a self donation, as well as to ask family, friends, coworkers, etc. to support them with a monetary donation.  Anyone can make a donation to support our team online by going to http://web.alsa.org/goto/teamfatherdennis  OR fill in one of the forms found around the church and mail it to the address on the form or put in an envelope marked “ALS Walk” and drop it in the collection basket. 

MASS AND MOVIE:  Tuesday, August 14 at 8pm at Holy Trinity.  All teens entering 7th – 12th grades are welcome to join us for Mass and a Movie. Bring your chairs and blankets for the Outdoor Movie after Mass. Family and parishioners are welcome to join us for the Mass which will be the anticipated Mass for the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, a Holyday of Obligation.

FIESTA VBS WAS A HUGE SUCCESS THIS YEAR!!!   The children had fun while praising and learning about Jesus.  Thank you to all the families that participated and were a part of our first VBS as the Duquesne/West Mifflin 227 Grouping!!  A huge Thank You goes out to the adult volunteers who gave up their time to share their faith and talents with the children.   We can't wait till next year to bring VBS to an even bigger and better week of fun and faith!!

ST PEREGRINE NOVENA  The Novena in honor of Saint Peregrine, patron of cancer patients, begins Tuesday, July 31 with nine consecutive Tuesday evenings at Corpus Christi Parish, 2515 Versailles Avenue, McKeesport.   Mass will be celebrated at 7:00 pm and novena prayers will be prayed after the Mass.   The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available before Mass.   The Mass intention for each week of the novena will be for all those who are in the hospital or nursing home or sick at home, especially those suffering with cancer.  For more information, please call 412-672-0765.

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME:  Make it a family evening!  Join with parishioners from St. Agnes, St. Joseph, CLW and Holy Trinity for an evening at PNC Park where the Pirates will play the Miami Marlins on Friday, Sept. 7.  Cost is $30 with $5 return in concessions. SAINT MARK PARISH FESTIVAL:  August 2, 3, 4 at 3210 Liberty Way, Liberty Borough.  The festival features games, food, rides, cash prize drawings, bingo, instant bingo, flea market/antique sale, bake sale, children's area, and nightly entertainment. Food booth opens each evening at 5:00 p.m.  There will be a 4PM Polka Mass with Jack Tady and the Tadybears on Sat., August 4. Festival hours are 6 - 11PM Thurs. & Fri. 5 -11 PM Saturday.

NIGHT AT THE RACES:  sponsored by K of C Stephen P. Barry Assembly 940. Saturday, August 18 at St. John the Baptist Church, 1907 Eden Park Blvd,. McKeesport.  Tickets $10 in advance, $15 at the door.  Doors open at 6PM, races start at 7PM.   Horses are $5 each and you can name your horse. If your horse wins you win $25.  To buy tickets and horses in advance send the name(s) of your horses and how many tickets you need to David Palcsey, Sr., 422 26th Street, McKeesport, PA 15132. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope.  Make checks payable to Stephen P. TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME:  Make it a family evening!  Join with parishioners from St. Agnes, St. Joseph, CLW and Holy Trinity for an evening at PNC Park where the Pirates will play the Miami Marlins on Friday, Sept. 7.  Cost is $30 with $5 return in concessions. AUGUST 25 PITTSBURGH WALK TO DEFEAT ALS  TEAM FATHER DENNIS will be walking again this year in memory of Father Dennis.  This year’s Pittsburgh Walk to Defeat ALS is on Saturday, August 25 at Point State Park from 8 - 11:30 am. You can sign up for the walk by going to http://web.alsa.org/goto/teamfatherdennis.    Remember, all walkers must be registered to walk.Our goal this year is to raise $2,500. We are hoping to reach this goal by encouraging all of our walkers to make a self donation, as well as to ask family, friends, coworkers, etc. to support them with a monetary donation.  Anyone can make a donation to support our team online by going to http://web.alsa.org/goto/teamfatherdennis  OR christthelightoftheworld.org and clicking on the link to our team page OR fill in one of the forms around the church and mail it to the address on the form or put in an envelope marked “ALS Walk” and drop it in the collection basket.Sign up or donate soon!  If we raise $2,500 by August 1st we will qualify for a Team Tent at the walk!

FR TOM AWAY:  July 15 through July 21.  Fr. Jack “true story” Nanz will do the weekend Mass coverage and Fr. Jim Seeger will do the weekday Mass coverage and Funerals.  I will be away at the Fr. Beiting Appalachian Mission Center for a Mission Trip.  Thanks for the help, Brothers, and please remember in prayer the Missionaries traveling down to Kentucky to serve our kinfolk in Christ who live in the region of Appalachia.

50TH  WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION:  at St. Paul Cathedral will be held on Sunday, October 7 at 2:30 PM.  This Mass is open to all couples who are celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary anytime at all during this year.  If you would like to attend this event, please call Fr. Tom at the rectory at 412-469-0196 to register.  Congrats on your 50th and may you continue to reflect the presence of our Loving God in your hearts as you live out your Marriage Promises and Covenant.

Another very successful summer flea market is completed.  We want to thank Debbie Lesko for chairing the event, and the dozen or so helpers who accepted donations, went through the boxes, and washed and priced everything for three weeks; also the dozens of volunteers who sold inside and out, donated items for sale, Chinese auction items, food & drinks; who cooked and prepared food, sold chances, came at 7 am to set up outside and close at days end.  This could not be a success without you!  Net profit will be published in next week’s bulletin.
