Jesus’ command to “go and make disciples” is as true for us today as it was for the first ones who heard it. How do you understand that? As Christians, we claim to believe in a sacred mystery that is founded on dying and rising. We have to be ready to live it. “On Mission” will challenge us to live what we profess. Do you know that between 60%-70% of Catholics no longer practice their faith? Do you realize that the Baby Boomers (51-69) make up the largest portion of practicing Catholics in the United States? As their numbers shrink over the next 25 years, they will be replaced by a smaller generation with less connection to faith. If we do nothing to reconnect the “lost generations”, who will continue to tell the story of the Gospel? If we do nothing, 50% fewer people will receive the graces of the sacraments in the next 25 years. Do you realize that the dramatic shifts in population, culture, and economy affect our ability to do ministry as the Gospel calls us to do? These are the many realities and challenges that we have to address. This is what “On Mission” for the Church Alive! is all about.
