We who pray and worship in the City of Duquesne quickly come to realize that we are more than a cluster of church buildings or more than a parish with an individual name. We become acutely aware that all of us together live, pray and act as a family. We support each other and pull together when times are tough. When one is hurting, we all are hurting.
This past week, I was notified that Seth Budai, a former member of St. Joseph Parish and who has worked for fifteen years from high school thru graduate school in various janitorial positions at Christ the Light of the World Parish, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancerous tumor — the size of a baseball — located on several nerves near his spine. He will need at least a year of chemo/radiation to shrink the mass and if all else fails a very risky operation may be needed.
Seth is 30 years olds, has been married one year. He and his wife live in Owings Mills, MD. Seth is a high school counselor and coach. Because of this illness, he will have to leave his job for a year and may lose or have his medical benefits cut and some of his treatments may not be covered by insurance.
With all this in mind, and after putting out some feelers, I have decided that we would have a “Benefit – Fundraiser” for Seth on Saturday, October 18. All other details are not finalized. We will have a meeting in a month or so, asking for your help if you wish to volunteer. In the meantime, most importantly you can pray for healing or a miracle.
