Men's Spiritual Focus Group

  • Holy Name Hall 32 South 1st Street Duquesne, PA, 15110 United States (map)

Please join us at 6:30pm in Holy Name Hall. Our Spiritual Focus Groups are always open to new members who wish to enrich their faith, their spirituality and their own personal life.

Our monthly gathering of men focuses on the spiritual aspect of our lives. The age range of participants is from 20 to 70 and the group is always welcoming new members to this very special, spiritual and enriching experience.  Anyone considering joining should just come. Maybe you can ask yourself the question, “With all that I am responsible for, isn’t my spiritual wellbeing worth it?”

Here's what our members are saying:

“I think the single biggest thing I have gotten from our spiritual group, is the wonderful trust and bonding evidenced by all who participate. You know that everyone sincerely cares about whatever problems and concerns you have and are willing to try to help via suggestions and prayers. The other nice thing is you can be totally candid about whatever it is that is on your mind and have no fear that it will ever leave the room. This cannot be said for many situations we encounter in life. The spiritual group has allowed me to be more opening my dealings with others and has made me more aware of peoples problems and the need to help if I can.”

“There are times when our words fail us. As men, our words fail us when we are articulating how we feel; when there is turmoil and struggle, and when we feel discouraged and hopeless. Over the course of the last year, a group of men from our parishes have come together to learn how to find their word; learn more about themselves and to learn how to feel more spiritually connected to God.

For me finding my voice has been a way for me to let trust in and open my life to God and to my family. With the guidance of Fr. Tom and the trust of my fellow group members the excuse of, “I cannot find the words” is no longer the crutch to shut down, clam up and suffer in silence. I want to thank my fellow men for listening and for giving me the chance to be heard. We all have similar struggles and joys. But now, because of the Focus Group, we know we can find comfort that we are developing the tools to be here for each other physically and spiritually.”

“Being a catholic male in today’s society is a real challenge. We are called to be spouses, fathers, mentors, friends and co-workers. In an attempt to be all things to all people in our lives we sometimes fail, fall down or lay down. In my case, I always lived the notion that “God helps those who help themselves.” I couldn’t have been more wrong. Discussing my successes, failures and my perceived failures with my friends, yes my group members are all now friends of mine, I found that I was not alone in the quest to be a better version of myself. Through the intercession of the Holy Spirit, through my friends understanding and support, I have found a better version of myself. God wants us to succeed in all ventures that bring us closer to Him and I now have no reservations with asking Him for His help. This has strengthened my relationship with the Lord, opened my acceptance of the Holy Spirit in my life and deepened my appreciation of the sacrifices that Jesus made for all of us. I have the group to thank for helping me overcome this life long burden that I placed upon myself and other crosses that I have bore.”
