Our Spiritual Focus Groups are always open to new members who wish to enrich their faith, their spirituality and their own personal life. Here's what people are saying about this group:

“Being a 12 year old convert, I welcomed this group to learn more. Our current focus is on Mary and her numerous journeys. Each month I leave our session with a better understanding of Her plus I am always enlightened about something in my own spirituality. It is more than I ever expected it to be. The group gets closer and more comfortable each month. ”

Men's Spiritual Focus Group

Please join us at 6:30pm in Holy Name Hall. Our Spiritual Focus Groups are always open to new members who wish to enrich their faith, their spirituality and their own personal life.

Our monthly gathering of men focuses on the spiritual aspect of our lives. The age range of participants is from 20 to 70 and the group is always welcoming new members to this very special, spiritual and enriching experience.  Anyone considering joining should just come. Maybe you can ask yourself the question, “With all that I am responsible for, isn’t my spiritual wellbeing worth it?”

Here's what our members are saying:

“I think the single biggest thing I have gotten from our spiritual group, is the wonderful trust and bonding evidenced by all who participate. You know that everyone sincerely cares about whatever problems and concerns you have and are willing to try to help via suggestions and prayers. The other nice thing is you can be totally candid about whatever it is that is on your mind and have no fear that it will ever leave the room. This cannot be said for many situations we encounter in life. The spiritual group has allowed me to be more opening my dealings with others and has made me more aware of peoples problems and the need to help if I can.”

— Focus Group Member

“There are times when our words fail us. As men, our words fail us when we are articulating how we feel; when there is turmoil and struggle, and when we feel discouraged and hopeless. Over the course of the last year, a group of men from our parishes have come together to learn how to find their word; learn more about themselves and to learn how to feel more spiritually connected to God.

For me finding my voice has been a way for me to let trust in and open my life to God and to my family. With the guidance of Fr. Tom and the trust of my fellow group members the excuse of, “I cannot find the words” is no longer the crutch to shut down, clam up and suffer in silence. I want to thank my fellow men for listening and for giving me the chance to be heard. We all have similar struggles and joys. But now, because of the Focus Group, we know we can find comfort that we are developing the tools to be here for each other physically and spiritually.”

— Focus Group Member

“Being a catholic male in today’s society is a real challenge. We are called to be spouses, fathers, mentors, friends and co-workers. In an attempt to be all things to all people in our lives we sometimes fail, fall down or lay down. In my case, I always lived the notion that “God helps those who help themselves.” I couldn’t have been more wrong. Discussing my successes, failures and my perceived failures with my friends, yes my group members are all now friends of mine, I found that I was not alone in the quest to be a better version of myself. Through the intercession of the Holy Spirit, through my friends understanding and support, I have found a better version of myself. God wants us to succeed in all ventures that bring us closer to Him and I now have no reservations with asking Him for His help. This has strengthened my relationship with the Lord, opened my acceptance of the Holy Spirit in my life and deepened my appreciation of the sacrifices that Jesus made for all of us. I have the group to thank for helping me overcome this life long burden that I placed upon myself and other crosses that I have bore.”

Joint Parish Family Picnic

Plans are well under way for our third annual joint parish family picnic. Parishioners who have attended in previous years have found it to be quite the memorable experience.   We hope to build on that momentum and have an even bigger, better, fun-filled experience for every one of all ages. This year’s picnic will be held Sunday, August 27th at the Mifflin Social Club from 1 – 7pm.

Attention Pre-Teens, Teens and Young Adults:  We are planning lots of fun activities for children at the picnic and are looking for teens and young adults to help with the younger children.  Josie Beresnyak is putting together carnival games, craft tables, a finger nail polishing table and other running games for the kids and is in need of help running these. If you are interested in helping with this or want to help in any way, call or text Josie at 412-849-7081 or Kristie at 412-616-2596.

  • A Steelers afghan, pillow and slippers were made to welcome Father Tom
  • A Golf Outing basket included a Steelers afghan, pillow, club covers, teddy bear, football slippers and tree top angel;

"Stitches of Love" Knit/Crochet Group

The CLW/St. Joseph Parish Knitting Group “Stitches of Love” group will meet in the Holy Name Church Hall.  We will continue our hats, scarves, and slippers projects for babies through adults.  Anyone wishing to contribute items may drop them off at the Rectory or in our Churches.

Don't worry if you don't know how to knit or crochet, they will teach you! We are currently working on our Thanksgiving Reach Out Program and the Kentucky Missions. In the past, this group has supported several ongoing outreach programs and has made an impact thanks to the following efforts:

  • Purple/White Hats and Booties for the newly baptized
  • An afghan and angel for Palm Sunday Breakfast Raffle
  • A Steelers afghan, pillow and slippers were made to welcome Father Tom
  • A Golf Outing basket included a Steelers afghan, pillow, club covers, teddy bear, football slippers and tree top angel;
  • A #Sethstrong basket included an afghan and supplies for a cozy evening
  • Thanksgiving Outreach included 10 bags full of baby afghans, hats, gloves, slippers and scarves for babies, children and adults
  • 80 tossle caps, gloves and scarves were given to the Boys and Girls Club in Duquesne for Christmas

Thank you to the many generous people who donated yarn for our group.  We hope to see you at a Stitches of Love event soon!

We make the best Home Made Hoagies in town! And at just $5 a crack we frequently sell out, so we encourage you to call in your order in advance (412-469-0196). As always, we need volunteers to help build them on Saturday morning beginning at 8:00 am in the Holy Name Hall.  It’s great fun and many hands make the work go quickly.

Volunteers: We need lots of help to construct the hoagies within a three-hour time frame.  Just show up at 8:00am in the Holy Name Hall and we’ll put you to work. It is lots of fun and you get to meet some great people!

Orders:  If you would like to pre-order your hoagies, just call the rectory and we will have them ready for you. We frequently sell out so we encourage you to call in your order in advance (412-469-0196). This will give us a better idea of how many hoagies to make so we don’t disappoint anyone.
