<h3>MEMORIAL DAY MASS AT ST. HEDWIG CEMETERY</h3>
<p><strong>Monday, May 28 </strong>is Memorial Day.&nbsp; It is our tradition to  celebrate Mass at one of our 3 cemeteries on a rotating basis. This year  we are scheduled at <strong>St. Hedwig Cemetery.&nbsp; </strong>It is located on Grant  Ave. Ext. in West Mifflin.&nbsp; Mass will begin at 10:00 am.&nbsp; If it is  raining, we will have Mass in St. Hedwig Church beginning at 10:30 am.&nbsp;  You are invited to bring a chair to sit upon if you need to.</p>
<h3>RECRUITING ALTAR SERVERS</h3>
<p>We are in the process of recruiting altar servers to serve at our weekend Masses. Any boy or girl, 5<sup>th</sup> grade and older is invited to participate in this special ministry to  serve at the altar.&nbsp; We will be recruiting during the summer and begin  training when school starts, so that you will be ready for the Fall  scheduling time frame.&nbsp; I hope parents encourage their children to  participate.&nbsp; If interested, give Fr. Dennis a call.</p>

<p>Due to the inaccessibility of the HN hall in June &amp; July, the Men&rsquo;s Spiritual Focus Group will not meet those months.&nbsp; We will resume our monthly meetings <strong>August 16<sup>th</sup>.</strong></p>
<h3><strong>GOLF OUTING MEETING</strong></h3>
<p>There will be a meeting for all committee members, as well as volunteers who will work at the outing.&nbsp;&nbsp; The meeting will be held <strong>June 4, 2010, Monday evening at 6:30 pm </strong>in the Holy Name Hall.&nbsp; We want to identify job needs and areas that need covered.&nbsp; <strong>Volunteers:&nbsp; </strong>We can always use more help.&nbsp; The more the better.&nbsp; There are lots of things to do and a great time is had by all.&nbsp; <strong><em>If you are unable to attend the meeting but still want to help, leave your name at the rectory, so we can assign you a task.</em></strong></p>

<p>To date, we have received $16,674.00 in outright donations and pledge payments from 127 participants towards our goal of $58,628.00. This leaves us a balance of $41,954.00.&nbsp; We hope that everyone will do their best to help us meet this goal.&nbsp; If we go over our goal, we can keep the money here in the parish free from Diocesan tax.&nbsp; <strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><br /></span></strong></p>

<h3>CHRISTIAN MOTHERS NEWS</h3>
<p>The Christian Mothers and Guild will meet on <strong>Tuesday, May 15 </strong>beginning with the Rosary at 11:45 in Holy Name Church followed by Mass at 12 noon.&nbsp; The crowning of the Blessed Mother will take place by one of the members. The program will consist of a discussion on blood pressure and strokes with member, Bernice Bitkowski leading.</p>
<h3>EIGHTH ANNUAL <em>"ED CAPRISTO"</em> MEMORIAL GOLF OUTING NEWS</h3>
<p>Plans are underway for our 8<sup>th</sup> annual golf outing.&nbsp; This week we are sending our invitations to businesses, golfers and friends of our parishes, as well as the golf outing raffle tickets to all of our parishioners.&nbsp; This way we can hopefully maximize our proceeds which benefit both of our parishes.</p>

<p>We would like to take this opportunity to thank anyone who in anyway helped make the recently held <em>&ldquo;Breast Cancer Awareness&rdquo; </em>Benefit such a huge success.&nbsp; The committee of over 20 people is grateful to the 209 people who attended as well as those who donated over 60 specialty baskets, desserts &amp; appetizers, made cash donations or made donations in memory or in honor of someone.&nbsp; When all the bills are submitted, we will announce the profit from this event.</p>

<p>One of the keystones and hallmarks of our wonderful liturgies in the   parishes in the City of Duquesne is our Music Ministry.&nbsp; Did you ever   think this is something that God is calling you to be a part of or   participate in?&nbsp; Did God bless you with a good voice or music ability?&nbsp;&nbsp;   If so, then you should not keep it for yourself, since you enjoy   singing and listening to the choir or the music in church.&nbsp; We are a fun   and friendly group of men and women, who love embellishing our   liturgies with music.&nbsp;</p>

<p>We will be hosting this workshop for anyone who has not yet completed    this requirement as well as the paperwork to acquire their necessary    clearances so that they may be able to volunteer and/or work in the    parishes.&nbsp; The workshop will be held in the <strong>Holy Name Hall on Saturday, May 19 beginning at 9:00 am. </strong></p>
<p>In light of the recent allegations at Penn State, I would think&nbsp; that    everyone would be willing to protect themselves, the parish, their    pastor and most especially anyone who has been victimized.&nbsp; <strong><em>Our goal is to have everyone compliant by the end of 2012.&nbsp; </em></strong></p>

This challenge is such a blessing due to the fact that these old buildings need lots of attention and repairs.&nbsp; Without this challenge, we would probably have had to begin to address closing or selling buildings.&nbsp; </em></strong></p>

<p>This first gathering proved quite successful.&nbsp; Over 40 women came to participate in this exciting, new spiritual journey in hopes of gaining the insights and energy to continue to life fully alive in the Lord and for themselves and those people who are special in their life.&nbsp; They have decided to meet <strong>the first Wednesday of every month.&nbsp; </strong>It is open to all women.&nbsp; You owe it to yourself to be the best you can be.</p>

<h3>MOTHER'S DAY HOAGIE SALE</h3>
<p>The weekend of May 12/13 is Mother&rsquo;s Day weekend and we are planning another homemade hoagie sale.&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong><em>Instead  of or in addition to flowers or candy, think about giving Mom a  mouthwatering gift that she will truly appreciate &ndash; &ldquo;A CLW Homemade  Hoagie.&rdquo;&nbsp;&nbsp; </em></strong>You can call in your orders by calling Holy Name  Rectory or pick them up before or after the weekend Masses or stop by  Saturday morning from 9:30 am &ndash; 11:30 am.</p>

<li><strong>Volunteers:&nbsp; </strong>we usually have over 30 volunteers but <em>&ldquo;the more the merrier.&rdquo;&nbsp; </em>We  want to expand our sales at some point so hopefully you will consider  helping out.&nbsp; It usually takes about 3 hours to&nbsp; complete our tasks.&nbsp;  Just come around 8 am, it is fun and you get to meet new enthusiastic  people from both parishes who help out.&nbsp; </li>
<li><strong>Sellers:</strong>&nbsp; we also have had an increase of people taking <em>&ldquo;Hoagie Signup Sheets&rdquo; </em>to work and delivering them on Monday.&nbsp; Bring in lunch for $5.00.&nbsp; Once they have had ours, they soon become regular customers.</li>

<p>A year and a half ago, the men of our parish embarked on an enriching journey by forming a <em>&ldquo;Men&rsquo;s Spiritual Focus Group&rdquo; </em>with  Fr. Dennis as moderator.&nbsp; Since then, some women have inquired about  the possibility of having this type of group for women of our parishes.&nbsp;  WELL THE TIME HAS COME!&nbsp; I wanted a spiritual, competent and  experienced woman to moderate this group.&nbsp; God has sent her to us!&nbsp;  Rowena Lynch, a married woman, who is a member of St. Mark Parish in  Liberty Boro/Port Vue.&nbsp; She has extensive experience in pastoral work;  served on her pastoral council; worked as pastoral associate in Holy  Angels in Hays; leads a women&rsquo;s prayer group; facilitated grief support  groups; was a long time youth minister and serves as a Lay Dominican  Associate.&nbsp; The initial meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 25 beginning at 6:30 pm in the Holy Name Hall.&nbsp;</p>
<p>This group will touch on areas that personally affect women in  relation to God, their families, their relationship.&nbsp; Spiritually  healthy women makes for a better self, better mother, better wife,  better friend, better parishioner.&nbsp; Come and give this opportunity a  try.&nbsp; You deserve it.</p>

We are trying to recruit a busload full of excited, motivated men to spend a day in getting a pep talk on how to make God more relevant to a man&rsquo;s daily living.&nbsp; This is for all men, single/married, old/young or in between. If you find yourself spiritually underfed; your marital relationship is lifeless or dead; you need to reconnect in a meaningful way with God; then this day will help recharge you.&nbsp; We are planning a&nbsp; possible breakfast in the HN hall and going together on a bus. <p>The Caring Ministry is hosting a <em>&ldquo;Buffet Breakfast&rdquo; </em>on <strong>Palm Sunday, April 1<sup>st</sup> </strong>in    the Holy Name Hall from 9:00 am &ndash; 1: 30 pm.&nbsp; Menu includes: Scrambles    eggs, bacon, sausage, chipped beef on biscuits, homefries, French   toast,  fresh fruit, Danish rolls, juice, coffee, and tea.&nbsp; Donation:   Adults -  $7.00, Children (1<sup>st</sup> child &ndash; 12 &amp; under - $4.00 &ndash; other children eat free.&nbsp; All proceeds benefit the works of the Caring Ministry.</p>

Hall, West Mifflin.&nbsp; There are pink flyers around the  churches with all the details on how you can get tickets for the event,  volunteer, make donations, or remember &amp; honor a living or deceased  loved ones who has suffered with this disease.</p>

<p>To a spiritual super charged day of renewal on <strong>Saturday, April 14 </strong>at  the A. J. Palombo center. We are trying to recruit a busload full of  excited, motivated men to spend a day in getting a pep talk on how to  make God more relevant to a man&rsquo;s daily living.&nbsp; This is for all men,  single/married, old/young or in between. If you find yourself  spiritually underfed; your marital relationship is lifeless or dead; you  need to reconnect in a meaningful way with God; then this day will help  recharge you.&nbsp; We are planning a&nbsp; possible breakfast in the HN hall and  going together on a bus. All this for a donation of $35.00. This will allow those who receive to have the dignity to buy what they  want and those giving to drop the cards in the collection or mail to the  rectory.&nbsp; Mark the envelope &ldquo;feed the hungry.&rdquo;&nbsp; Monetary donations are  acceptable.&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong>Coin Collection:</strong>&nbsp; Begin saving your loose coins for the offering for the poor to be given at our Holy Thursday Ministry of Service.</p>

<p>The Bishops of Pennsylvania request that all Catholics dedicate the regular Lenten Friday of prayer and abstinence as well as fasting on <strong>Friday, March 30 </strong>for the preservation of religious liberty.&nbsp; Join the other 3 million Catholics in Pa. to pray so that the Church may be free to practice what we teach.&nbsp; Fasting is more than cutting back on eating.&nbsp; It is the practice of giving&nbsp; up something we are attached to (i.e. TV, texting, smoking, etc.)</p>
