WE CELEBRATE (THE RITE OF ELECTION)

We would like to congratulate four members of our parish who are participating in the Rite of Election at the 11:30 Mass this week by signing the “Book of the Elect” in front of our Lenten cross.  They will also be going to St. Paul’s Cathedral to celebrate this rite with other members of the diocese.  The Rite of Election is celebrated at the beginning of Lent and continues for six weeks ending at the Easter Vigil, April 4.  This is a special time of prayer and preparation for the candidates/catechumens who now are named as the Elect.

Our candidates:  Rachel Gilbert, Patricia Rock, Christine Stephenson & Cliff Taylor

CONGRATULATIONS SECOND GRADERS

We would like to congratulate the 13 children from Christ the Light of the World Parish and the 5 children from St. Joseph Parish who celebrated their First Reconciliation on Saturday. HOAGIE SALE

Hoagies will be sold after all Masses next weekend. We need volunteers to help build them on Saturday morning beginning at 8:00 am in the Holy Name Hall. Lots of helping hands make the process go faster, plus it’s a great chance to help your parish while getting to have some fun time with fellow parishioners.

CONFIRMATION NEWS & DATES

We would like to announce that the diocese has informed us that the Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered to the 9th and 10th grade students of Christ the Light of the World and St. Joseph Parishes on Monday, April 27, 2015 at 7:00 pm in the Holy Name Church.  Bishop William Winter will be the presiding bishop.

  • Baptism Certificates:  Every confirmation candidate must get a copy of their baptismal certificate unless they were baptized in Holy Name, St. Hedwig or St. Joseph Church.  Please give to Jim Roman by March 1st.
  • Confirmation Sponsor:  Every Confirmation candidate must choose a sponsor.  They should be a practicing Catholic and have received the Sacraments of Iniation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.)

FILMING OF MASS

Fr. Dennis and Fr. Tom were contacted this week by the Communications Office of the Diocese of Pittsburgh to ask permission to film the 11:30 Mass on Sunday, March 15.  All are invited.  Last month the office did a filmed interview with Fr. Dennis on how to evangelize a parish.  This film will hopefully be used as a teaching tool for other parishes in the diocese.

  • Spiritual Readings:  For adults, we have “The Word Among Us,” “Little Black Books,” and “Let Jesus Lead the Way” (daily reflections and meditations.  For children:  “Little Purple Books

  • Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation:  To be celebrated after all the weekend Masses on March 21/22.  We will celebrate communally  in a guilt free, non-judgmental way.  Fr. Tom Dansak will be here to help.  Anyone wishing a private confession should call Fr. Tom.
  • You are God’s Idea!!!  God planned and made us on purpose to do his work.  You are heaven’s custom design.  At a moment before moments existed, the sovereign Star Maker resolved, “I will make ____ ( your name goes in the blank)”  Then he continued with “And I will make him/her ____,and ____, and_____, and _____.” (fill in these blanks with your characteristics).  And since you are God’s idea, you are a great and awesome idea.  What God said about Jeremiah, he said about you: “Before I made you in your mother’s womb, I chose YOU.  Before you were born, I set you apart for a special work.” SET APART FOR A SPECIAL WORK!!!!!!...........from Grace For the Moment by Max Lucado

OUTREACH PARTICIPATION

  • Reachout to our shut-ins:  attached to this bulletin is a listing of all of our shut-ins (nursing home, personal care homes, assisted living, and home centered elderly residents.)  Write them a card or note during Lent/Easter.  Help make them feel connected to our parish and that they are not forgotten.
  • Feed the Hungry (with dignity & ease):  Instead of bringing food, we are asking for food gift cards.  Those who receive can get what they need.  Everyone young and old can participate.  Drop in the collection or mail to the rectory. If you want to make a monetary donation, do the same.  Mark the envelope “Feed the Hungry.”
  • Coin Collection: Save those coins to be offered on Holy Thursday for the needy and poor.
